Fergus Falls - a small Minnesota town: September 23 2024
If you ever think you fully get the state or country in which you live, it’s a great idea to go traveling about, visit some small towns or remote areas within your geographic area, and then reassess your beliefs.
This post is actually about a recent get-away, which is where I grabbed a bunch of pictures, vs. today, in which I was on the move all day (working at my stand-up desk, getting ready to host my book club, cleaning, sweeping, and prepping food), but not exactly getting steps in, in the traditional sense. Ha ha
That’s okay. I moved around a LOT and that’s what counts, right?
So the bottom line is that I need to go get photos from another day to write this post and give it some flare.
This pics were taken on a recent walk in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, on my return trip from a weekend writer's retreat.
It’s a lovely town on a river, with amazing old architecture. One of the oldest buildings is an historic building, built in 1872 and oformerly owned by the Red River Milling Company. It clearly has some history! You can read about it on Wikipedia.
In addition to its classic small town vibe, Fergus Falls has a lovely welcoming feel for families. For example, there’s a charming children’s museum.
There’s also a lovely park along the river with a river walk, and there was a play park with water where some children were splashing and playing. Under a sheltered picnic area at the river walk, a group was enjoying a catered event. The caterer's truck was a former ambulance!
The local businesses seem to be thriving too. So often in small towns, you see shuttered windows and stores that appear bedraggled and sad. But I saw some very nice looking store fronts, restaurants, a book shop and so on. And I saw two grandparents taking their little grandson into an ice cream shop. Always a heartwarming thing to see!
Thank you for visiting!

What a beautiful town, everything is so clean and well kept as well!
This is definitely a place I could enjoy living in!😀
It's quite adorable! Very quiet on a Sunday. I bet it's much more hustle bustle during the week.
Glad you had the chance to snap some photos, it always nice to see such unique places!😊

Beautiful historic place. Some towns around here maintain their old character because it draws tourism, but Fergus Falls looks like the kind of place where time just stands still.
Well said, @litguru. It definitely has that old world charm!
