(ESP-ENG) Poca paciencia, menos credibilidad.
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Formula 1 has just started, we have just two races, Australia and China, and we have already witnessed the first novel of the season. We are in grand prix week, Japan with its Suzuka circuit and coincidentally a Japanese has been the center of attention in recent days. Before the beginning of the year, when the news that Liam Lawson would be the new teammate of Verstappen or the replacement of Checo Perez, however you want to see it, inside the world of Formula 1 generated some doubts and that such a position carried a great responsibility so the fans wondered, is Lawson the right one? - Time said no.
Practically everyone expected that Yuki would be the one promoted for what he has been doing at Alpha Tauri, now Racing Bulls but the surprise was another one. Lawson's promotion, according to Horner and company, was due to the fact that during his short stint at Racing Bulls he had a very good adaptation, even better than Yuki's at the time, so they believed that this would be enough to be sitting in a super complex car to drive. The reality is that this adaptation never happened at RB, the young New Zealander never had the chance to do things right and with only two races his results on track were to be forgotten: in Australia he did not finish the race and in China he finished sixteenth.
Now, is this a reason to have gotten out of it so early? - As they say, the fish dies by the mouth. If there is something that has characterized Helmut Marko is that he almost always talks too much, maybe it is a matter of his personality or simply pride overcomes him; the thing is that with Lawson was no exception and before the season started he was already exalting him more than he should at the same time he was belittling the rest of the rookies. The result? - His rookie was the first change on the grid. If you ask me I would have given him one more race, he was very aware of his role and the position he was in, I think Japan could have been his final turning point.
But with RB having lost so many points and the fact that Max did not have a reliable partner on track, the Austrians were forced to demote Lawson to finally give Tsunoda a chance. Everything has a reason to be. The first one is that being in Japan the next race it may motivate Yuki a little, plus it is known that Honda gave a sum of money to Red Bull for the rise of the Japanese. To ignore the fact that this driver has improved a lot was already something mean, last season he was much more consistent and this season we have seen things from him too. It was time for him to step up and show what he is worth in a complex car.
To close I think the fact that Tsunoda debuts in Japan may be a double-edged sword, it is true that it can give you an extra motivation but it can also be a great media pressure, we will have to see if he is ready for that, I would think so. RB's status was and still is at stake, it is a team that does not have the best car, with these changes their credibility has been affected, they have not scored the points that I imagine they had contemplated; it is a series of elements that are not helping their image at all. All this without mentioning that Verstappen may not have been entirely in agreement with these moves. Anyway, RB's patience is at an all time low but their credibility, if this change goes wrong, will be on the floor.
