(ESP-ENG) Mónaco: Una carrera insufrible.
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
When I was watching the race I'm not going to lie to you that two things happened: at some point I fell asleep and at others I thought I was going to write here today interesting beyond Leclerc's victory. Monaco is a mythical circuit, important and with a lot of history, Formula 1 is not conceivable without it but, and here comes the blessed but, it is incredibly predictable in its more than 70 laps. Being street, narrow and full of curves, overtaking is mission impossible, there is no space on the entire track to do so, to the point that there is only one DRS zone but it is extremely short. And if we add to all this how big these cars are, all the more reason to do so.
Having said all this, for me this circuit is not determinant of anything, here wins the one who makes less mistakes in the pole position and logically in the race. Hence the importance of Saturdays and being able to make a good qualifying. Throughout the weekend it was seen how the Monegasque Ferrari driver was perfect, he was the one who stood out the most in practice, which led him to get another pole position for his credit. McLaren was also very fine, corroborating their good moment and what they have been doing since a couple of awards, Red Bull is no longer untouchable, it seems that something is not flowing in that team despite always being favorites and Max Verstappen has honestly not looked comfortable lately.
Saturday's pole was incredibly tight, differences of hundredths and thousandths were what separated the drivers from each other, being the first two rows of the starting grid for Ferrari and McLaren. But not everything was rosy and both Checo Perez and Fernando Alonso, who at some point appeared in the practices, left early, both in Q1. To say that the Mexican driver's weekend was disastrous and that of the Asturian as well, in fact, he has not been as expected after the improvements that Aston Martin has been bringing award after award.
As I said, the race was monotonous and linear, so much so that the positions at the end of the race were exactly the same as at the start, at least in the first 10 positions. There was not a single overtaking, as expected, and pit stops were just one during the whole race. Unfortunately, the most remarkable thing in Monaco has to do with negative aspects, and there were two accidents that were the ones that got people talking. The first one involved Checo Perez and Hass's Dane, Kevin Magnussen. In just the first lap, the Hass driver took the Mexican driver by the middle, completely destroying the RB20.
I believe there was no penalty so I assume they saw it as a racing incident but the fact that Magnussen is involved is not novel. In fact he is another penalty away from being suspended for an award. This would end a weekend to forget for the Red Bull sophomore. It is said that this damage will cost Red Bull about 2 to 3 million dollars. The second incident was caused by another of the most terrible and dangerous drivers in the top category, Esteban Ocon. In the same first lap he took his teammate Pierre Gasly through the middle.
According to Gasly's own words, Ocon did not comply with what had been agreed to try to take care of each other and keep the cars healthy. It is known that the relationship of these two does not exist, they do not get along, they treat each other because they have no other choice but the reality is that they can not even see each other. Evidently this set the alarm bells ringing at Alpine to the point that there is talk of possibly firing Estaban and bringing in his reserve driver Jack Doohan. I have always said that Stroll, Ocon and Magnussen represent a real danger for the other drivers. The Dane is not new, in all his career he has always been like that but the Alpine driver and the son of the boss Stroll is a little more worrying.
As you may have noticed, the only thing that came to light were the couple of incidents that occurred on the first lap. From this point on, the whole race was a little train that never went off the rails. Many expected a yellow flag, a Safety Car to make the race more exciting, but this was not the case. Everything was focused on tire management, since stopping in the pits meant going to the back of the classification and not trying to hit the walls. With no major mishaps, Charles Leclerc finally won at home, which is something to be happy about, let's not fool ourselves. This circuit had been very unfair to him in the last editions, so it was time for his redemption.
What this did was to tighten the world championship. Leclerc cut the gap to Max to less than 30 points and in the constructors' race, Ferrari cut the difference to 24 points. This is because Perez did not finish, Verstappen finished sixth and Sainz finished third, that is, a podium of the two Ferraris. The next race will be in Canada in two weeks, we will see if it continues this tight and interesting, for the sake of the show, let's hope so.
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡Hugs to all, see you next time!
Gran analisis @javyeslava.photo, saludos.
