(ESP-ENG) Casi 4 décadas después...
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
And the wait was over after 38 long years when back in 1986 that team known as "La Guerrilla" won their seventh championship against the Leones del Caracas. Now in Venezuelan professional baseball the jokes against this team for their long time without winning are over, the only team that remains under that condition are the Bravos de Margarita, formerly known as Pastora de los Llanos who have not won anything in their history. As an ardent fan of the Leones del Caracas on one hand I congratulate all the fans of the team, the truth is that it was about time and even more after what happened last season but on the other hand I am sad because my tireless source of jokes is over, next season will not be the same.
But in all honesty it must be said that this champion team of the Sharks has been one of the best I have ever seen because the lineup that they managed to put together, full of big leaguers, is something that is very difficult to see in this league. Players like Maikel Garcia, Brayan Rocchio, Alcides Escobar, Wilson Garcia, Ronald Acuna himself, although he did not play as much as he said he would, the Cuban Yasiel Puig who for me was an important spark plug for the operation and a long etcetera were those who made up a dream team that honestly since the postseason or Round Robin did not give a chance to anyone.
A special mention must also be made to the architect of all this. In the middle of the season, there was an important "move" in this team, a change of management and coaching staff because the results were not coming. They decided to bring in a man who knows what it means to wear that shield and uniform, to the point that his number, 13, has been retired. Oswaldo Guillen, the only Venezuelan manager who has won a World Series with the Chicago White Sox after 88 years, did the same with the La Guaira Sharks and led them to be champions after 38 years. There is no doubt that this guy is the key piece of this championship, the streak breaker; so yes, honor to whom honor is due.
Now I wonder, will we see this team as we saw it this season again? - My answer is no. While it is true that I believe that for the 2024-2025 season they will bring in the necessary players to maintain the competitiveness of these "horses" like Maikel, Ronald, Rocchio, etc. I see it complicated for them to put on the shirt again. Why do I think so? - Because the reason why they came in recent years is precisely to seek the championship, since they got it for them the job is done. In fact Maikel in his networks already said that he would return in a couple of years, that it was time to rest.
And another proof of this is the upcoming Caribbean Series that starts today in Miami. The team that will represent Venezuela, and here I make a caveat, (for me this is a tournament of teams not countries because that is what the World Classic is for), is very different from the team that was champion a few days ago. This happens because of the different commitments that the players have with their MLB teams, visa issues and because they simply want to take a break. Now we are facing a lineup that is a hybrid of several teams and that chemistry and performance that we saw is very likely gone. But well, don't pay too much attention to me either, maybe we will win the Series and everyone will be happy because baseball is like that, unpredictable.
Finally, we have a new champion in our baseball and it was thanks to a functional team in almost all its lines. A compact team, with chemistry, with offense, defense, pitching, with a coaching staff that knew how to manage and straighten the course and above all by a fan base that was always there. If there are any fans that are faithful and never lost hope, it is the fans of this team, and I say this from experience since I have friends who had never seen their team win and still kept cheering until the end. The wait and the kettle is over, finally this was the year and the Tiburones de la Guaira are the champions of Venezuelan baseball.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well friends, that's all for today I hope you liked it.
¡Hugs to all, see you next time!
Saludos!
