The Baton Race (Relay Race)

It is pertinent I write about Relay Race because it's like everybody's mind is now focused on soccer neglecting Relay Race.
There are four runners in a team. Each runner must run very fast. The handover of the Baton takes place at each of the exchange zones where each of the team mate is standing to receive it.

Each runner in the team complement the other in both speed and skill. When a runner drops the Baton during the race, his or her team is disqualified and will not continue the race. On this note, each runner must be vigilant while running to avoid this or her team been disqualified.

Let's is just look into this race and see how we can promote it to be more popular as soccer is. I will like to highlight the following skills involved in it as follows.

1. Baton grip
The runner holds the Baton at the end with the last two fingers around it. This will allow the receiver to take the remaining part of the Baton easily.

2. Take-off
At the command of GO the first runner of each team moves off at top speed with baton in full grip.

3. Run up
The runner move very fast with the headband trunk leaning forward and upwards. The arms swinging quickly forward and backward heading towards the other team member .

4. Visual exchange
The runner with the Baton and the one that will receive it watches each other as they exchange the Baton at the change over zone. The runner with the Baton stretches his or her hand forward as far as possible while the receiver slows down and grip the Baton.
