MATCH ANALYSIS
The first match of Group B sees England and Iran clash.
The Group B sees among its protagonists:
- England
- Iran
- United States
- Wales
I start by analysing the group in question. The big favourite to pass the round in this group is certainly the English national team, which is also one of the favourites for the final victory at the Fifa WorldCup in Qatar. A group, indeed, not very balanced. In the sense that the theoretical overwhelming power of the English national team over the other pretenders immediately jumps out at us.
Iran, the United States and Wales, however, will fight with all their might to gain qualification to the next stage. For me, the United States start slightly ahead, followed by a decent Wales. Iran, barring any surprises, could be the tail end of this Group B.
Mr. Southgate's England is aiming at the first place in its group, even though in the last five national matches it has not shone at all; on the contrary, it is coming from a five-game losing streak that has seen it draw three times and lose twice. But now it is time to get serious, no more false steps, we must prove our worth. England, who after the defeat at the last European Cup against Italy (who will not be at the World Cup) have all the will and all the ability to have their say in this WorldCup.
On the other side, however, we find Iran. As I said before, probably barring any surprises, they could be the tail end of Group B.

Although there could indeed be surprises. Why? Lately there has been a lot of talk about Iran, not in the football sense.
On 15 August 2022, President Ebrahim Raisi signed a decree with a list of new and updated restrictions on how women and girls must dress within the local community, increasing the rules regarding the hijab and chastity. This has sparked much controversy both within Iran and internationally. But as if this were not enough, on 16 September 2022, news emerged that Mahsa Amini had died in mysterious circumstances, after she was arrested following an accusation that she had improperly worn the veil.
Life-changing events in Iran led to protests across the country and demonstrations also internationally.
If there is one thing I have learnt from football it is that when someone is moved by important feelings then something absurd might happen. So, if we consider this, Iran could and should play an important game in this Group B, and could even overturn the ruling.
MY PREDICTION
My prediction, however, is conditioned by the English footballing powerhouse, too superior to their opponent in terms of squad depth and general footballing strength.
Interesting fact: it seems to be news just a few days ago that England have chosen a place far from the crowded cities of Qatar for their training camp. The problem? Apparently the English players were disturbed in their sleep by camels. Yes you read that right.
Last tip I would like to mention: watch out for the heat and mugginess! It could be a disadvantage for the European national teams to play in this heat in Qatar, considering that in much of Europe temperatures have dropped in the run-up to winter. This climate change could affect the outcome of some matches.
However, having said and considered all that I have written, I feel strong on 1.
England win the match.
For me, the English national team could even run rampant against their opponent, Iran, who must be good at damage limitation and try to fight back. But the English, for me, will win.
TALENTS TO WATCH
I wanted to play a little game of sorts and pick one player per team that I think could stand out in the path of this World Cup.
For the national team of Iran I would recommend Mehdi Taremi, striker of Porto.
For the England national team, I would recommend Phil Foden, a young midfielder with Manchester City. Also used by Guardiola as a false Nueve last year, today there is Halaand so he is no longer used in that role

ANALISI DEL MATCH
La prima gara del Gruppo B vede scontrarsi Inghilterra ed Iran.
Il Gruppo B vede tra i suoi protagonisti:
- Inghilterra
- Iran
- Stati Uniti
- Galles
Parto dall'analizzare il girone in questione. La grande favorita per il passaggio turno di questo girone è sicuramente la Nazionale Inglese, che è anche una delle favorite per la vittoria finale della Fifa WorldCup in Qatar. Girone, effettivamente, non molto equilibrato. Nel senso che ci balza subito all'occhio la teorica strapotenza della nazionale Inglese rispetto alle altre pretendenti.
Iran, Stati Uniti e Galles però lotteranno con tutte le loro forze per riuscire a conquistarsi una qualificazione alla fase successiva. Per me, partono leggermente avanti gli Stati Uniti, seguiti da un discreto Galles. L'Iran, salvo sorprese, potrebbe essere il fanalino di coda di questo Gruppo B.
L'Inghilterra di Mister Southgate punta al primato nel proprio girone, anche se nelle ultime 5 partite di match nazionali non ha affatto brillato, anzi.. viene da una serie negativa di cinque partite che l'ha vista pareggiare 3 volte e perdere ben 2 volte. Però ora è arrivato il momento di fare sul serio, niente più passi falsi, bisogna dimostrare il proprio valore. Inghilterra che dopo la sconfitta agli scorsi Europei di Calcio contro l'Italia ( che non sarà al mondiale) ha tutta la voglia e tutta la capacità per poter dire la sua in questa WorldCup.
Dall'altra parte però troviamo l'Iran. Come ho detto prima, probabilmente salvo sorprese, potrebbe essere il fanalino di coda del Gruppo B.
Anche se potrebbero effettivamente esserci sorprese. Perchè? Negli ultimi tempi si parla molto dell'Iran, non in senso calcistico.
Il 15 agosto 2022 il presidente Ebrahim Raisi ha firmato un decreto con un elenco di nuove e aggiornate restrizioni su come donne e ragazze devono vestirsi all’interno della comunità locale, incrementando le norme riguardanti appunto lo hijab e la castità. Questo ha fatto scoppiare molte polemiche sia all'interno del territorio Iraniano che a livello internazionale. Ma come se non bastasse il 16 settembre 2022 si apprende la notizia seconda la quale Mahsa Amini sarebbe morta in circostanze misterioso, dopo che ella fu arrestata in seguito all'accusa di aver indossato in modo non consono il velo.
Eventi che squarciano la vita in Iran e danno luogo a proteste in tutto il paese e manifestazioni anche a livello internazionale.
Se c'è una cosa che ho imparato dal calcio è che quando qualcuno è mosso da sentimenti importanti allora qualcosa di assurdo potrebbe accadere. Quindi, se consideriamo questo, l'Iran potrebbe e dovrebbe giocarsi una partita importante in questo Gruppo B, potendo addirittura ribaltare la sentenza.
IL MIO PRONOSTICO
Il mio pronostico tuttavia condizionato dalla strapotenza calcistica Inglese, troppo superiore all'avversario in termini di profondità di rosa e di forza calcistica in generale.
Curiosità: pare sia notizia di pochi giorni fa, l'Inghilterra ha scelto per il proprio ritiro un luogo lontano dalle città affollate del Qatar. Il problema? Pare che i giocatori inglesi sarebbero stati disturbati nel sonno da Cammelli. Si avete letto bene.
Ultima tip che mi sento di riportare: occhio al caldo e all'afa! Potrebbe essere uno svantaggio per le nazionali europee giocare con questo caldo in Qatar visto e considerato che in buona parte dell'Europa le temperature sono calate in vista dell'inverno. Questo sbalzo climatico potrebbe condizionare l'esito di qualche match.
Tuttavia, detto e considerato tutto ciò che ho scritto, mi sento di andare forte sull'1.
Inghilterra vince il match.
Per me la Nazionale Inglese potrebbe addirittura dilagare contro l'avversario, Iran che deve essere bravo a limitare i danni e cercare di combattere. Ma gli Inglese, per me, vinceranno.
TALENTI DA OSSERVARE
Ho voluto fare una specie di giochino e scegliere un player a squadra che secondo me potrebbe distinguersi all'interno del cammino di questo mondiale.
Per la nazionale dell'Iran mi sento di consigliarvi Mehdi Taremi, attaccante del Porto.
Per quanto riguarda invece la Nazionale dell'Inghilterra mi sento di consigliare Phil Foden, giovane centrocampista in forza al Manchester City. Utilizzato da Guardiola anche come falso Nueve lo scorso anno, oggi c'è Halaand quindi non viene più utilizzato in quel ruolo
