too few events for a saturday : August 24 2024

not much happened today although it was a saturday.
saturdays are usually fun filled, excitement overflowing activity spent days right?
but mine was just something subtle.

the dinner out

i was hoping to get more step counts that night to be honest.
i know that i wasn't having enough steps for the day specially for a saturday.
this was the last picture i took, a picture of two ladies who were happily chatting, passing by our front.
we were on the way to the station at this time.
i was hoping we could do more walks, but no it was just not possible.

just minutes before that, we were hurriedly getting out of the dessert shop.
i just briefly took photos of the restaurants we passed by, we were in kita-senju.

i had one peach parfait for dessert, and we were forced to have some desserts because of the rain.
yes, it was the rain again.
and we hurriedly left once the rain slightly stopped because the weather app said that it will rain again in 30 minutes.
there really was no time to slow down, and no time to walk leisurely.

we had dinner at another place, one which specializes on liver dishes.
i never knew liver so soft that it would just melt in your mouth just on a slight tongue pressure.
it was buttery, if that could even describe liver.
we had the time of our lives in that shop, but the moment we got out, rain fell.
it was not even on the weather, 15% chance of rain was what it said earlier.
the weathers are so unpredictable these days.

the midday clinic visit

around 10 am, i finally went to the clinic to get my knees checked.
there was nothing wrong with it on waking days, i could walk and even jog perfectly.
but depending on my sleeping position, there are mornings where i have to take quite a long time before i could bend my left knee.
those are what is bothering me, and i have never had that experience before our mountain hiking trip.

i had the longest waiting time ever in my life.
i was served after around 3 hours of waiting, it was that bad.
saturdays are notorious for clinics, i know that, but i never expected three hours.

they took x-rays first, i'm glad they did; that gave me reassurance that this clinic is not a quack.
after a few more minutes, i finally faced the doctor.
he asked my to lay down and asked me the pain history while twisting, stretching, folding my legs and knees asking if i felt pain.
i didn't felt any pain at all, well... except for the muscle pains from the gym weight training i had the previous day.
he showed me the x-ray slides finally, there was nothing wrong with the bones around my knee.
phew...
that was a heavy burden lifted.
but he suspected i might have iliotibial band syndrome, a condition where the iliotibial band tendon got swollen from rubbing against the knee or hip bones.
he said that this tendon runs at the outside of the leg from the hips and crosses slightly over the side knee joints.
runners and hikers usually experience this syndrome.

he didn't tell me to stop my activities but asked me to make sure that i have proper stretching before any hiking, running or walking activities.
he also told me to ice the area if it gets too tight.
in the end, he prescribed some anti-inflammatory drugs and some patches to cool down the area.
now, if this don't heal in two weeks, he will probably have me undergo some rehabilitation.
this result was reassuring, something which heals over time is of course reassuring.
as for my end, walking and cardio activity intensity will for sure be lowered.
and proper stretching!

on the road to proper healing.

as always, AMPING KANUNAY!
stay safe!

I used to have this experience when I started playing badminton more often and also on hiking trips. It is concerning even the doctor told me that there is nothing wrong after x-rays and examinations.

I remember the doctor explained to me how the weak muscles and joint ligaments work and how they adapt to your physical activities. Then said that I just have to do more of my activities but not injure myself. Basically, I was just becoming stronger. So do you.

I believe I have had this iliotibial band syndrome in the past my friend it is painful!!
I had to resort to wearing a knee brace for several months!
It takes time but you will heal!😀
