make me lose my sweat: June 3 2024

i got wet today, and it was not the good kind of wet. and before you could even say anything, that is not my bike. that is too classy to be my bike. that bike just happened to be at the perfect spot for some picture, the lonely bike under the downpour. i too have a bike but is blanketed in dust and grime. it has been ages since the last time it was used.

so what led to the "wet" scenario? it all started at ...

lunch time when i decided to cook. it must have been the 3rd time i cooked mongo beans stew within this year. mongo is called mung beans in english, i believe. in the philippines, we cook this as a stew and is commonly referred to as "poor man's meat" for it was affordable but rich in protein. when i has still in the university, one small bowl of this would cost 7 pesos (around 10 cents in dollars). i wonder how much a bowl would cost now.

for my version, i added few slices of meat for that aroma, beef stew cubes for the flavor, and spinach for added nutrients. i would have added malunggay or moringa leaves and coconut milk if it were available.

rain clouds were starting to form by this point.

after work was over, did some groceries. there was nothing much to buy but salmon slices and food for breakfast. i once again passed by the lantern lit street. the festival is scheduled this coming weekend. i took out the umbrella going to the shop, there was a slight drizzle. but it stopped when i went home minutes after.

this got me complacent.

went to the gym for cardio. my legs were still a bit sore from the previous leg day routine, so decided to skip the hip machine. gym was filled that usual, unfamiliar faces were even there. not that i know everyone, but by now i already have some idea of who goes to the gym at this schedule.

  • seated abdominal crunch machine (59kg x 3 x 12)
  • rotary torso machine (72kg x 3 x 12 per side)

so there i was walking on the treadmill after these two machines. it was my third day of trying out that "fat burning" course at level 17. i am still not used to it, the levels were too steep at some points that i had to hold the handle when the incline changes. it was also harder to catch my breathing but felt extra relief when the steepness goes down. i still don't know how effective this could be but i am enjoying this course so far.

after an hour, you could wring sweat from my clothes. it was that wet. i freshened up and dried myself up, only to get out to a heavy rainfall. this was just unfortunate. i was meters away from home but that mere meters got me all wet. again. the effort i used in drying up earlier was wasted minutes after. i could have stayed wet and went home dancing in the rain, that would have been a positive feeling.

i guess summer is coming, rains usually pour when the seasons change in this part of the world. that would be a whole different type of rant by then.

as always, stay safe.
AMPING KANUNAY!

thanks a lot. but you know what, i was also amazed at how many shared words we might have between spanish and tagalog(filipino). my initial understanding was correct when i double checked in google translate

gustan - like - gusto(in filipino)
calles - street - kalye(in filipino)
faroles - lanterns - parol(in filipino)
