F1 Getting Boring
I want drivers to race and overtake. But while everyone is citing some imaginary "if you penalize, they'll be afraid to ever overtake and nobody will overtake ever!" fears, i think this is distracting people from the very real and kind of present reality: an inverse "i'm making a move because i feel like it, either you back down and give me the spot, or we crash" mentality. I dislike that just as much as it's counterpart. It's a bullshit mentality that i don't want to see in racing.
But that kind of seems to be the direction we're going. Regardless of if you blame HAM, VER, or call it a racing incident, this entire move just came across as one big game of chicken. And you can cite "but HAM has backed down before" or "but Max should pick his battles" or whatever, but none of that changes my opinion that this shouldn't be the kind of situations F1 drivers should be forcing and just cleanly profiting from.
I want hard racing. I don't want every little nudge to be penalized. I want cars side by side into corners. But i don't want these ridiculous games of chicken. And like Speed mentioned, maybe this is the culmination of all the inconsistent and messy stewarding we've gotten the last 3 or so years. Regardless of who it is in the incident, i hate this type of mentality drivers seem to be flirting with.
