Uefa Champions League Review
The Uefa Champions League this past two days was not what I expected, it was entertaining but the excitement wasn't there.
The opening match on Tuesday night was between Chelsea vs Lille. The defending champion had a tough night against last season's Ligue one winners, Kai Havertz was close to scoring at the opening minute but the ball went wide of the goalpost, but that did not stop the German International as he scored the first goal of the match 5 minutes later from Ziyech corner. Havertz was quick to respond and heads the ball into the goal post.
Pulisic made the score shit in the second half. Kante made an impressive run down the box and laid a pass to Pulisic as the American International slammed the ball into the goalposts. Unfortunately for Lille, they could not grab a goal before the 90th minute. They still got the second leg to redeem themselves but I don't think Chelsea will let their guard down. The second match played the same day was between Villarreal and Juventus. The new signing for Juventus, Dusan Vlahovic scored the opening goal just barely 1 minute at the blow of the whistle.
The Serbian international has been impressive this season in Serie A, scoring a total of 18 goals in 24 appearances and scoring on his debut in the UCL. Villarreal bounced back at the 66th minute of the second half. Capoue played a long ball into the box, Dani Parejo with just a touch got the equaliser for Villarreal. The match ended in a draw both teams played well hope to see how things turn out in the second leg. That concludes Tuesday's UCL fixtures.
Last night's fixtures weren't what I expected especially for Atletico Madrid vs Manchester United. It's no news Atletico has been knocked out of the UCL by Ronaldo twice and last night they crossed paths again with Ronaldo. Joao Felix made his mark early at the 7th minute, Renan Lodi delivered a cross into the box, the Portuguese International heads the ball into the goalpost.
A lot of chances were made by United but it seemed the goal wasn't coming. The Atletico defenders made it difficult for Ronaldo to press forward or take a shot. United got their equaliser in the 80th minute, Anthony Elanga came off the bench and got the equalizer for United leaving the home side stunned. Grizemann was close to getting Atletico's lead back as he curls the ball, the crossbar denied the shot and Atletico's chance of winning was lost. The match ended with a draw. The second leg will be played in Old Trafford. Make no mistake Ronaldo is definitely going to make his mark.
Benfica and Ajax played a draw. Tadic was the first to register a goal for Ajax in the opening 18 minutes. Benfica was levelled by an own goal from Haller who later gave Ajax back the lead 3 minutes later after his own goal. Roman Yaremchuk equalised at the 72nd minute, the match ended 2-2, both sides unable to get the winner.
That concludes this week's UCL round of sixteen first leg fixtures, Hoping to see some turnaround in the second leg. So guys that will be all for now and don't forget to see Napoli Vs Barcelona for the second round of the Europa League. Bye for now.
The UEFA champions league first leg is was Indeed not what I also expected, only Chelsea that could stand out differently after huge work. The case of manunited was just dissapionting I never could believe atletico could be a pain in the ass for united, I hope for better results next leg.
I was not impressed with United's performance, Ronaldo just ghosted the field.
Ahswear they made sure to silent him he couldn't even hold the ball for long 😁 they have match this weekend abii?
