Sevilla Beat Roma To Win The Europa League Title
Last night the Europa League came to an end as Sevilla beat Roma in a penalty shoot-out to seal their claim to the Europa Title, which they are no strangers to. Sevilla has dominated the Europa League and has won it seven times in the history of the club. Sevilla's journey to this final is quite surprising because they were in the relegation zone in the first half of the season but since Jose Luis Mendilibar( Sevilla’s coach) took over in the second part of the season he has turned the team around, and they are currently sitting in the 11th place on the table.
Before the game kicked off I told my brother Sevilla was going to win without a doubt. Although he agreed their chances were high he still preferred Jose Mourinho's side to take home the Europa League title. In the first half, Sevilla controlled the game and had more possession than Roma. Roma planned to drop back and wait for a mistake from Sevilla then make a quick counterattack. Roma’s plan did pay off, and it lead to the first goal of the match which was scored by Dybala.
Sevilla kept on pressing high to score the equalizer but each time they came close to scoring Roma's defenders will stop the danger. In the second half, Sevilla kept on pressing Roma, and it lead to an error from the defense, which resulted in an own goal. Sevilla still had control of the game and made a few chances to score but could not find the back of the net. Both sides failed to score in the second half, and the match went to extra time.
In the extra time, Roma players tried to stall so the match would end in penalties. I was just laughing because they didn’t know who they were up against. Sevilla's squad has a lot of Argentina players that played in the world cup, and Sevilla goalkeeper Bono is an expert in stopping penalties. Bono was one of the reasons Morocco made it to the semi-final of the world cup, so there was no way Roma where getting passed him in the penalty shootout.
Bono saved two of Roma's penalties and Sevilla did now lose a single penalty. Montiel played the final penalty for Sevilla, not a surprise he was the one that played Argentina's last penalty which secured their victory over France in the world cup final. Sevilla now doesn't need to worry about finishing in the top seven to secure European place as they will be playing in the UCL next season. What a night it was for the Spanish club. So guys that is all for now. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day.
