My Entry For Word of the Week S5W4 Betrayal and Misdirection

Yesterday, I was in a heated conversation with a friend of mine, he insinuated that our country it's not being controlled by our government but is still under the influence of our former colonial Master which was Britain and they are the cause of the economic failure of the country. I explained to him that Nigeria is a sovereign country and can rule without any interference from outside bodies, although the way I see Ukraine and Russian ongoing dispute I am beginning to doubt if sovereignty is practised.

I asked my friend if Nigeria’s sixty-one years of Independence was a joke to him, I explained to him that Nigerians are the ones ruling themself and the government is the ones responsible for the failure of the country because of their selfish desire to fill their pockets, neglecting the rest of the country.

He kept on disagreeing and dropped another statement saying they are no more foreigners in the country that they all have left along with their businesses and that's another major reason for the country's economic instability, yes there is no doubt that foreign investment helps the economy of a country and some foreign businesses have left the country due to the backlash of insecurity issues happening.

I explained to him that not all have left, they are still a lot of foreign businesses functioning but he disagreed. We got a point when he started comparing currency. He asked why is a dollar not equal to the naira and I asked him a question "can you compare the US economy to that of our economy". He could not give me a direct answer and kept beating around the bush.

I think he feels the country can't function properly without foreign aid, I don't blame him for thinking that way, many more like him may have the same misdirection regarding how the country works, due to the betrayal of our political elites failing in all aspects of governing the country.

But that is over now, we are taking the fight to them in the coming election next year, we are done being sitting ducks, getting my voters card and going to participate in the election. So guys all for now, thanks for stopping by, cheers.
