Manchester United Draw At Home Against Sevilla In The Europa League

Source

Manchester United played the first leg of the quarter-final of the Europa League at Old Trafford Stadium against Sevilla last night. The red devils played without their star man Marcus Rashford who picked up an injury on Saturday against Everton. Manchester United has been doing well in the Europa League, knocking out Barcelona and Real Betis in the competition, and is once again set up with another Spanish team in the quarter-final.

Sevilla's performance this season has been poor, they were so bad they got themselves in the relegation zone which made the board sack Jorge Sampaolin and replaced him with Jose Luis Mendilibar. The new manager has been able to move Sevilla out of the relegation zone and has taken Sevilla into the quarter-final of the Europa League.

Back to the match, the first 45 minutes of the first where was under Manchester United's control, they dominated in possession, shot on target, and passes and in the 14th minute Manchester United scored the first goal of the match. Burno Fernandes played a through ball into the box and found his teammate Marcel Sabitzer. The Austrian received the ball and fired a shot into the goal post and scored his first goal in the Europa League as a Manchester United player.

Manchester United doubled their lead seven minutes later. Anthony Martial led the counterattack, dribbled past a Sevilla player, and made a through pass to Marcel Sabitzer. The Austrian received the ball and played a shot into the bottom corner of the goalpost and scored his second goal of the night.

Things started to go bad for United in the 46th minute of the second half. Varane picked up an injury in the 46th minute and was quickly replaced by Harry Maguire. Sevilla started to look deadly in attacks and they found their breakthrough in the 84th minute. Lucas Ocampos played a cross to Jesus Navas who received the ball and played a cross but the ball deflected off Malacia and went into the goalpost.

Manchester suffered another injury blow in the 86th minute of the second half, Lisandro Martinez picked up an injury and could not continue the remaining minute of the match. United could not make any substitution to replace Lisandro Martinez because they had already used all their substitutions and had no choice but to play the rest of the match with 10 men which gave Sevilla the advantage.

Sevilla leveled the scoreline late in the 90+3 minute. Lucas Ocampos made a cross into the box and found Youssef En-Nesyri, the Moroccan player headed the ball and the ball deflected off Harry Maguire's head and went into the goalposts. Manchester United looked stunned and Sevilla had joy on their faces.

The second leg will be played next week in Sevilla's home stadium and I have doubts Manchester United would make it to the next round because their injury list is filled with important players, they might drop points against Nottingham Forest on Saturday which could threaten their top four spots, it's going to be a long week for Manchester United.

So guys thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
