The English Premier League resumed from the International break with Manchester City Vs Liverpool kicking off the weekend, I had a hard time predicting the winner even though Liverpool is having a rough season but when it comes to facing Manchester City the reds knows how to handle their arc rival but yesterday wasn't the case for Liverpool as they got trashed by Manchester City.
Haaland was missing from the squad list because he picked up an injury during the International break which allowed Alvarez to show the quality he possessed. Liverpool struck first in the 17th minute of the first half, Trent Alexander-Arnold played a through ball to Jota who received the ball and played a pass to Mohammad Salah, the Egyptian wasted no time as he fired the ball into the top corner of the goal post.
Manchester City leveled the scoreline in the 27th minute, Mahrez lead a counterattack and passed the ball to Jack Grealish, Grealish received the ball and quickly played a pass to Alvarez, and the Argentinian made no mistake and played the ball into the goal post. Manchester City completely controlled the game after Alvarez's goal, making dangerous attacks but could not get a goal because of the defensive work of Liverpool's defenders, it went on till the referee blew his whistle to signify the end of the first half.
Manchester City did not waste any time as they quickly scored a goal 1 minute later at the start of the second half. Ilkay Gundogan made a tackle, won possession, and quickly played a through ball to Mahrez, the Algerian made a run and played a through ball into the box for Kevin De Bruyne who made a tap-in into the goalpost.
Manchester City doubled their lead to two in the 53rd minute, Alvarez played a shot and it got blocked by Arnold but the danger was not over as Ilkay Gundogan quickly fired the loose ball into the goalpost and scored Manchester City's third goal of the match. Manchester City sealed their victory in the 74th minute, Jack Grealish received the long ball and played a pass to Kevin De Bruyne, De Bruyne returned the favor and played a pass back to Grealish who was already in the box and the Englishman played the ball into the goalposts.
Liverpool could not come back from behind a three-goal lead for the remaining 27 minutes and the match ended. Manchester City took all three points as they continued their pursuit to overtake Arsenal who also did well this weekend. Manchester City has to keep on winning their league matches because Arsenal is not ready to drop points anytime soon, we are going to have another dramatic end to the season in the EPL.
