Alan Shearer: The Last of a Dying Breed
Ate a full English for breakfast, steak and chips for lunch and elite defenders for dinner. Slept in a no.9 shirt. 9️⃣
Your favourite Premier League striker grew up idolising him, your favourite Premier League defender still has nightmares about him. 😱
He might not have looked like your average world-class striker does these days, but Shearer was a PROBLEM. So much so that, on 30th July 1996, Newcastle United broke the world transfer record to sign him from Blackburn Rovers in a £15million deal. 💰
Sure, £15m doesn’t sound like a lot in the current transfer market- it wouldn't even buy you half of Joelinton- but rest assured that was serious money back then. 🤑
Brazilian Ronaldo's world record transfer to Barcelona was barely two weeks old when Shearer came along and blew it out of the water.
