En este fin de semana se ha jugado en Inglaterra partidos correspondientes a la FA Cup, la competición de fútbol con más antigüedad en el mundo. En este caso me centraré en el duelo más atractivo de la tercera ronda de la segunda Copa más importante después de la Premier League, en aquel país fundador de este maravilloso Deporte que tantas alegrías nos da día a día.

El Manchester City recibía la visita del Chelsea de Graham Potter, en lo que sería el partido más llamativo de esta ronda. Ambos equipos venían de enfrentarse por Premier League entre semana en Stamford Bridge. Ese encuentro se lo llevaron los Cityzens por la mínima con gol del Argelino Riyad Mahrez en un golazo colectivo a la hora de partido.

El Chelsea está pasando por un mal momento, las innumerables lesiones están haciendo mella en el equipo Blue. Bajas importantes como la de Kante o Reece James están haciendo demasiado efecto en los resultados desfavorables de este equipo. Y esto sumado a las recientes bajas de Sterling, Christian Pulisic, Wesley Fofana, Eduard Mendy y Armando Broja. Viendo la cantidad de bajas, algunas de ellas de jugadores que son habituales en el once de Potter y otras de jugadores de relevo, es una situación demasiado compleja poder conformar un equipo competitivo y sobre todo que tenga la continuidad para generar buenos resultados.

Pep Guardiola decidió darle rodaje a jugadores como: Cole Palmer, Sergio Gómez y también darle la primera titularidad Post-Mundial al Campeón del Mundo Julián Álvarez.

Al minuto 23' de partido llegaría una falta algo inocente de Hall a 25 metros del arco. El Argelino Riyad Mahrez fue el encargado de ejecutar un sublime tiro libre que se metió por la escuadra izquierda del arquero Kepa, 1-0 para el City que ya se estaba haciendo muy superior en la cancha. A la media hora de partido, llegó una mano dentro del área de Havertz que trataba de despejar. El árbitro decretó el penal vía VAR para que el Argentino Campeón de Mundo, Julián Álvarez se encargara de poner el 2-0 en el encuentro.

La superioridad del Manchester City se hacía cada vez más notoria con el pasar de los minutos. El Chelsea no podía salir y nunca a lo largo de todo el primer tiempo pudieron generar algo de peligro. A los 38' de la primera mitad, llegaría una auténtica joya de videoteca por parte de los de Pep. Kyle Walker inició la jugada con una muy buena maniobra individual para posteriormente mandar un cambio de frente a la banda izquierda para Gómez. El Chelsea seguía empecinado en salir jugando desde el fondo y ésto fue varias veces aprovechado por los jugadores del City, que si estaban con más hambre aprovechaban para dejar una goleada aún más abultada. Cerca del final del encuentro, Mahrez puso el 4-0 en el marcador vía penal, ejecutándolo de perfecta manera arriba imposible para el arquero Kepa Arrizabalaga.

El Chelsea tuvo muchas bajas para éste encuentro, pero esto no le quita para nada méritos al City que hizo a la perfección todas las facetas del encuentro. Ahora bien, yo en posición de Potter habría planteado otras opciones para llegar a la puerta de Ortega con más insistencia. Los Blues estuvieron muy empecinados en salir desde el fondo con pelota dominada, pero en su intento de salir bien, a veces fallaban porque el rival los presionaba muy bien, y tampoco encontraban los jugadores libres en la mitad de la cancha para hacerlo porque el City los tomaba muy bien a todos con la presión. Cuando lograban salir, lo hacían de forma muy lenta, dando oportunidad al City de pasar la línea de la pelota y acumular muchos jugadores en cada espacio del terreno de juego, algo que lo hacen muy bien. Ante ésto, en vez de caer en pases lateralizados y sin sentido entre centrales y laterales, podían usar otra opción, como darle el balón a Kepa para atraer al rival y así generar espacios arriba con los atacantes, o también salir en largo con los defensores o el arquero posicionando a los jugadores del Chelsea en campo contrario para después ganar la segunda pelota.

Entiendo la insistencia de los entrenadores de salir jugando desde el fondo, a mí me gusta que los equipos tengan una buena salida con los centrales y el arquero. Pero, si no tienes la posibilidad, ¿por qué no romper un poco el molde y hacer algo que tu rival no esperaría para tomarlo por sorpresa?. Creo que un equipo exitoso debe manejar todas las facetas del juego en cada una de las circunstancias que se presenten, sea ya, jugar en largo como también salir en corto y avanzar progresivamente, la idea es cambiar un poco la idea principal y tener un plan B o plan C.

I understand the insistence of the coaches to start playing from the back, I like teams to have a good start with the central defenders and the goalkeeper. But, if you don't have the chance, why not break the mold a little bit and do something your opponent wouldn't expect to take them by surprise. I believe that a successful team must manage all facets of the game in each of the circumstances that arise, whether it be playing long or coming out short and advancing progressively, the idea is to change the main idea a bit and have a plan B or plan C.

El Manchester City sigue con paso firme en todas las competiciones está disputando en esta temporada. Por ahora está segundo en Premier a 5 puntos con un mundo por jugarse de temporada. Está en cuarta ronda de FA Cup y en cuartos de final de Copa de la Liga donde es amplio favorito ante el Southampton. En Champions se enfrentarán al RB Leipzig.
