Leyendo la muy interesante y reveladora publicación de @franz54 sobre la NBA y la posible nueva coronación de Los Ángeles Lakers, he caído en la cuenta de que esta temporada no he seguido muy de cerca la liga de basquetbol más importante y competitiva del planeta, este deporte tan espectacular que atrae a tantos aficionados. Curioso porque me gustan la mayoría de los deportes y el de la canasta siempre estuvo entre ellos.
Creo que he perdido un poco el interés y no conozco el motivo real, aunque sospecho que quizás la añoranza de los fabulosos Chicago Bulls de Michael Jordan o de los fantásticos San Antonio Spurs de mi compatriota, el inigualable Emanuel Ginobili, son recuerdos demasiado fuertes que no me permiten disfrutar como en aquellas épocas doradas.
Y divagando o mejor dicho analizando mis pensamientos cuando una idea ronda mi cabeza y no me deja en paz, es algo que me ocurre con diversos deportes, aunque en general no me han provocado el desánimo que siento por este en especial, ahora que lo menciono, quizás también el tenis sea otro ejemplo similar donde mi interés ha decaído.
También sé que, como decía mi abuela, que un clavo saca otro clavo y en algunos deportes un nuevo interés tapa o hace olvidar algo que se creía inigualable. Un ejemplo claro es el fútbol, Messi se superpuso al recuerdo infinito de Maradona y la gesta del equipo capitaneado por El en Mexico 86 e Italia 90, por supuesto nadie olvida a D10S, solo que el hoy el fútbol para mi es tan disfrutable como aquella otra época gloriosa.
En ese mismo sentido, hay otros ejemplos y la enseñanza indica que un nuevo ídolo o un conjunto sobresaliente puede recrear el entusiasmo por un determinado deporte que teníamos olvidado u oculto entre los profundos pliegues de la memoria y la añoranza.
Y no ocurre solo con el deporte, ocurre con otras actividades de nuestra vida, el entusiasmo decae o se levanta dependiendo de estímulos que en ocasiones controlamos y en otras no. Los seres humanos somos más complejos de lo que parecemos.
Volviendo al tema deportivo, no sé qué piensan Ustedes, pero hay deportes que llaman más la atención que otros, por gusto o porque tenemos un ídolo, sea una persona o un equipo que hace crecer el fuego del entusiasmo, de la pasión, de la alegría por verlo y disfrutar de ello.
También tenemos predilección por un deporte en sí mismo, por el espectáculo que ofrece, eso me ocurre con las carreras de autos, me gustan todas y no tengo un ídolo en particular, tengo varios en alguna categoría o ninguno en otras, también está la esperanza de volver a tener un compatriota que sobresalga como en el pasado lo han hecho otros.
Sabemos que hay deportes que se ponen de moda, aquí en mi país el tenis explotó en el entusiasmo general con la aparición de Guillermo Vilas, fue un amor a primera vista, una pasión que se mantiene en la actualidad, aunque no tengamos en este momento un tenista descollante como si lo tuvimos en el pasado, cuando precisamente el ejemplo del gran Willy caló hondo en la juventud y aparecieron los talentos que nos llevaron a ganar la Copa Davies y muchos torneos importantes, entre los cuales se cuentan varios Grand Slam. Otro ejemplo es el hockey, más todavía el femenino, que, impulsado por el éxito de Las Leonas, ha provocado que hoy en día tengamos escuelas y estadios diseminados por todo el país, encontrando y formando talentos.
Quizás en el futuro algo dispare el entusiasmo por la NBA o por algún otro deporte que hoy no se cuenta entre mis preferidos, es muy probable. El entusiasmo deportivo está en todos y cada uno de nosotros, solo que no sabemos en qué momento una chispa prenderá el fuego de la pasión.
Sporting enthusiasm
Reading @franz54's fascinating and revealing post about the NBA and the possible new crowning of the Los Angeles Lakers, I realized that this season I haven't been following the most important and competitive basketball league on the planet very closely, this spectacular sport that attracts so many fans. It's strange because I like most sports, and basketball has always been one of them.
I think I've lost a bit of interest, and I don't know the real reason. However, I suspect that perhaps the longing for Michael Jordan's fabulous Chicago Bulls or the fantastic San Antonio Spurs of my compatriot, the incomparable Emanuel Ginobili, are memories that are too strong to allow me to enjoy them as much as I did in those golden days.
And wandering, or rather, analyzing my thoughts when an idea wanders around in my head and won't let me rest, is something that happens to me with various sports. Although, in general, they haven't caused me the discouragement I feel for this one in particular. Now that I mention it, perhaps tennis is another similar example where my interest has waned.
I also know that, as my grandmother used to say, one nail drives out another, and in some sports, a new interest covers up or makes us forget something that was thought to be unmatched. A clear example is soccer. Messi superseded the endless memory of Maradona and the feat of the team he captained in Mexico 86 and Italy 90. Of course, no one forgets D10S, but for me, soccer today is just as enjoyable as that other glorious era.
In that same vein, there are other examples, and the lesson is that a new idol or an outstanding team can recreate the enthusiasm for a particular sport that we had forgotten or hidden within the deep folds of memory and longing.
And it doesn't just happen with sports; it happens with other activities in our lives: enthusiasm wanes or rises depending on stimuli that we sometimes control and sometimes don't. Human beings are more complex than we seem.
Returning to the topic of sports, I don't know what you think, but some sports attract more attention than others, whether for pleasure or because we have an idol, be it a person or a team, who fuels the fire of enthusiasm, passion, and joy of watching and enjoying it.
We also have a predilection for a sport in itself, for the spectacle it offers. That happens to me with car racing. I like them all, and I don't have a particular idol. I have several in some categories, or none in others. There's also the hope of once again having a fellow countryman who excels as others have done in the past.
We know that there are sports that become fashionable. Here in my country, tennis exploded with widespread enthusiasm with the emergence of Guillermo Vilas. It was love at first sight, a passion that continues today, although we don't currently have an outstanding tennis player like we did in the past, when the example of the great Willy resonated deeply with youth and talent emerged that led us to win the Davies Cup and many important tournaments, including several Grand Slams. Another example is hockey, especially women's hockey, which, driven by the success of Las Leonas, has led to schools and stadiums scattered throughout the country today, finding and developing talented players.
Perhaps in the future, something will spark enthusiasm for the NBA or some other sport that isn't currently among my favorites; it's very likely. Sports enthusiasm is in every one of us; we just don't know when a spark will ignite the fire of passion.
