Beating My Own Ramadhan Record 💪
Yesterday I wrote that 10k was my Ramadhan record and was good enough to be posted. To only break the record in the same day.
I only reached the 10k in the first place because I went to check an appartment for rent in Tunis. I liked it. (And @loyaltea also liked it, since she'll join me there soon.) So I rented it.
Last night, I borrowed a car to move my thing from my old appartment.
I finished my job at 10 PM and went to the Medina, where I used to live. The Medina in Tunis doesn't have wide roads fit for cars, it was built before cars. So I had to leave the car outside and make the walk carrying my stuff across the neighborhood.
Usually it's a calm place by night but in Ramadhan nights the shops close much later that usual, to compensate for the closeing time for Iftar.
I kept going back and forth from home to the car carrying as much as I can.
At some point I saw a group of excited young people talking about a fight against people from another neighborhood close by. When I passed by the next time they were carrying sticks and iron bars and I realized that things were serious. But I kept passing through all the mess and they kept clearing the way for me and my chair or table or mattress.
Then they all went home and the dogs started coming. One by one at first and they were startled by anyone who passes. Then they, too hathered in a group and started barking at people.
Then they, too were hone and kept moving my stuff.
The only excitment I was having was everytime I pass by the coffee shop on my way. I would peek at the TV and check the score. Tunisia was playing against Malawi for the world cup classification. I even was lucky to catch the replay of Tunisia's first goal four minutes beforthe end of the 90 minutes.
I heard people screaming when I was passing so I checked. The goal was just scored and they were, to my delight, replaying it from different angles.
It was past 1 AM when I finished loading the car. So much of my activity didn't count for that day. But I still managed to reach 12k, breaking my personal Ramadhan record.
The came the unloading, which was much easier and faster because I could stop the car right in front of the new home's door.
I hope you enjoyed this story of Tunis by night and I hope it didn't scare you off. It's a nice and calm place usually.
