Chamber updates
On Tuesday, I consulted 23 patients in my chamber. There was no emergency case, Alhamdulillah. In the Visa medical section, 36 people came for the check-up.
Story of a patient with a firm misunderstanding!
A Bangladeshi worker visited me recently. She was having sharp pain in her throat for the last 3 days. However, she had an interesting history. Around 5 years back, once a fishbone stuck in her throat. Since then, whenever she feels pain in her throat, she thinks that the fishbone is still stuck in her throat and causing the pain. To be noted, in between her pain, she forgets about the fishbone!!
Last year, during her throat pain she met a doctor. According to her, the doctor agreed with her (that her throat pain was due to the fishbone stuck 5 years back)! And, the doctor gave her some medicines telling her that the fishbone would go away!
This time, as she started having throat pain, her diagnosis was that the fishbone was causing the pain. However, a fishbone wouldn't just sit in her throat for 5 years or so. If it was the case, then why she wasn't feeling it constantly? Why only for a few occasions in the last 5 years? She was puzzled hearing my argument!
Then I examined her throat. And, it was just simply a sore throat case or a case of acute pharyngitis. She was having pain from the infection in her throat. I counselled her on the detail that she was no longer having the fishbone in her throat. It went down to her abdomen within a couple of days it stuck in her throat back then. Now her problem was due to the infection. She seemed convinced. I prescribed medicines for acute pharyngitis and then she left.
Islamic reminder (A Quranic verse/ A hadith /A dua)
