INDIANA UNIVERSITY - 1987 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS - SILVER ROUND

In 1987, Indiana University won the National Championship in Men's Basketball.

This silver round celebrates the achievement with fine silver.

Indiana was established as a #1 seed in the Midwest Region in the field of 64 of the NCAA Tournament. Playing in the Midwest region put Indiana playing in the familiar territory in Indianapolis, Indiana and Cincinnati, Ohio.

The big challenge in the Midwest Region was the Duke Blue Devils, and LSU proved challenging by pushing Indiana to the brink. Indiana beat LSU by a single point with a score of 77 to 76. With the win over LSU, Indiana earned a trip to the Final Four.

The Final Four was held in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Indiana's semifinal game was against the UNLV Runnin' Rebels, and this team was strong at running the score up. The Indiana Hoosiers ran with the Runnin' Rebels and Indiana prevailed with a final score of 97 to 93.

Indiana's championship game was against Syracuse. Indiana kept Syracuse in check, keeping the score in the 70's. With a final shot, Keith Smart hit the game winner, putting Indiana ahead and winning the championship with a final score of 74 to 73.

These were wonderful days in the history of Indiana Basketball.
