First soccer game watched in my life in National Stadium / 人生初のサッカー観戦 in 国立競技場 - My Actifit Report Card: February 16 2025

Today we went to the National Stadium to watch a soccer game. My younger brother got the tickets from someone at work, but since he had already gotten the ticket himself, he agreed to give it to my elder son. The seats he gave us were far from him, so I couldn't let my 12-year-old go alone, so I went with him.
I have never been interested in sports in general because I am too bad at sports myself. I don't watch the Olympics or the World Cup. I have great respect for people who can play sports, especially those who can run, but it's kind of like looking at another living creature😅
The venue was the National Stadium, and the match was between Tokyo Verdy and Shimizu S-Pulse. I was in elementary school when the J-League, Japan's professional soccer league, started and my younger brothers immediately became Shimizu S-Pulse fans. When they were little, they cheered in front of the TV screen, and eventually they began to visit the venues to watch and support the games, but I remained as uninterested as ever.
So, I left the ticket gate of Sendagaya Station with some anxiety about whether I would be able to enjoy the 90-minute match. I knew the rules of soccer roughly, but not all the details. However, I am glad I went to see the game today. Yes, it was very interesting!
What was exciting? What caught my interest? It was the “supporters,” or spectators. I could hear the tremendous cheering even before I entered the stadium, but I was surprised or impressed when I actually saw the people who were the owners of the voices... They sang various cheering songs (chants) in accordance with the phases of the game, and I was amazed at how they synchronized their movements with the rhythm of the game. I was more interested in the supporters than the match itself.
I think the Verdy side was also cheering with excitement, but since I was seated on the S-Pulse side, I could not hear much from the other side of the field. I was completely overwhelmed by the greatness of the S-Pulse supporters, and with today, I somehow became a fan of S-Pulse.
On the way back, we were told that Sendagaya Station, the closest station to the National Stadium, was very crowded, so we were directed to Shinanomachi Station. The number of steps increased considerably because we walked one stop by train.

wow look at that crowd! but i do admit that soccer is one of the sports i have least interest in. i guess one reason was the trauma of having to play it in highschool where i rolled on the ground from stepping on the ball.
Sometimes events during sports play can be traumatic. Once we experience it, we may not be able to move our bodies as much as we would like🥲🥲
so so true. glad you enjoyed the match
I do go to soccer here from time to time. And I find the atmosphere you describe in the text and the photos of the stadium very interesting. I'm glad you had a good time.
Best regards, @go-kyo.
Thank you.
My brother later told me that the supporters of the Shimizu S-Pulse (orange team) are quite unique. They made it an interesting experience.
