Songkran Festival 2024
Last month, I was in Kowloon City to see the Songkran Festival. Songkran is the Thai New Year's national holiday, and this festival is celebrated around April.
There was a small food fair where visitors could buy Thailand products such as food, snacks and drinks.
There were also some Thai performances, such as dancing and singing in the Thai language, which was quite interesting because it was the first time I saw it.
Also, there was a boxing ring for the famous Thailand kickboxing, but it was only on the first day of a match show.
The pouring water symbolically represents the purification of the new beginning and welcomes the New Year ahead; that's the reason people play with water in the festival.
Seeing kids playing with water and the toys look like space guns attracted my attention. It reminded me of my childhood when I used to play the same in carnival season around February; at that time, we used small water balloons, or sometimes we used small buckles and colour four powder, but I am not sure if we are still allowed to use those things now because some the water ballons could hurt it doesn't break easily. Lately, I have seen people use some foam sprays, which, little by little, become water, too, but it seems less fun than before.
In some streets, some people celebrate the festival by dancing, singing and painting people's faces with some white powder, in case some people cross the street, most probably they will paint your face, but of course, they kindly ask you if you allow them to paint your face.
Finally, before this festival, it used to be celebrated on Kowloon City streets; according to the TV news, however, it seems that people lack respect for police officers because they spray water and paint their faces with white powder, which was no good seen in the eyes of the authorities, therefore, this year, the government restricted this and only allowed people to play inside the park.

Indeed, It’s pretty interesting to see people enjoying the festival.
It definitely looks like loads of fun!

From looking at the pictures I thought it's raining but it seems people have water guns... Haha.
What a happy festival and experience as well.
Haha, the wet floor is not from the rain; it’s the water of the people playing with it. 😅
That looks a lot of fun @georgehive 😍
Yeah, especially for kids.
Yay! How cool is that!!!
