My Actifit Report Card: December 19 2024

Hello Hive!

Yesterday morning, there was a bit of sunshine on our land. Since we cut down the trees on that side, we get better sunlight exposure. I took the opportunity to charge the battery using the solar panel.

Even though I applied mortar on the roof to prevent water from seeping in through the chimney, I couldn’t do it properly. Water still seeps in because it accumulates in the metal sheet’s corrugations. I’ll need to come up with a more ingenious and aesthetically pleasing solution.

I continued spreading the pile of wood chips. It has started to ferment, which has made its core extremely hot, so much so that I had to wear gloves to avoid getting burned.

I’m not really sure what to do with all these wood chips. There’s a large quantity, and I don’t have a hedge where I could spread them at the base.

Next, I kept cutting small logs for the stove using a hatchet. I experimented with several techniques, which yielded different results depending on the type of wood. It was interesting to observe, but also very tiring.

Once the technicians who were installing the heat pump at my aunt’s place had left, I drove back to Normandy at night.

In the picture above, that’s the moon you see. Through the car window, it’s less impressive, but it seems that depending on atmospheric conditions, it can appear closer, which was the case here.

Hier matin, il y avait un peu de soleil hier sur notre terrain. Puisque nous avons coupé les arbres de ce côté là, nous sommes mieux exposé au soleil. J’en ai donc profité pour charger la batterie avec le panneau solaire.

Même si j’ai appliqué un mortier sur le toit pour empêcher l’eau de s’infiltrer par la cheminée, je n’ai pas réussi à le faire correctement. L’eau continue de passer, car elle s’accumule dans les ondulations de la tôle. Il faudra que je trouve une solution plus ingénieuse et plus esthétique.

J’ai continué à étaler le tas de copeaux de bois. Il a commencé à fermenter, ce qui a rendu son cœur extrêmement chaud. À tel point que j’ai dû porter des gants pour éviter de me brûler.

Je ne sais pas vraiment quoi faire de ces copeaux. Il y en a une grande quantité, et je n’ai pas de haie où je pourrais les étaler au pied.

J’ai ensuite continué, tant bien que mal, la découpe de petites bûches pour le poêle à l’aide d’une hachette. J’ai expérimenté plusieurs techniques, qui donnaient des résultats différents selon les essences de bois. C’était intéressant à observer. Mais surtout très fatiguant.

Une fois que les techniciens chargés de l’installation de la pompe à chaleur chez ma tante étaient partis, je suis retourné en Normandie, de nuit.

Sur la photo ci-dessus, c’est la lune que vous voyez. À travers la vitre de la voiture, c’est moins impressionnant, mais il me semble qu’en fonction des conditions atmosphériques, elle peut sembler plus proche, ce qui était le cas ici.
