My Actifit Report Card: April 21 2024

Hello Hive,

Last night, exhausted, I failed to post my actifit. Yet, I always enjoy sharing the progress of our tiny house project.

This weekend was eventful. On Saturday, we traveled over 600 km on a road trip with my aunt to visit some friends. Despite taking few photos, the day was packed with activities. We even had the opportunity to briefly chat with Vladimir Vinchon, a talented rider to watch at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Returning home in the evening, tired from a day full of emotions, we quickly fell asleep and opted to go to bed early... only to wake up late on Sunday morning. Sometimes, it's beneficial to have long nights of over 10 hours of sleep, especially when we are as exhausted as we were.

After waking up late at 10:30 AM, I started the day with breakfast followed by some tidying up. I then prepared lunch, putting a chicken in the oven for two hours, which gave me time to organize my busy work week ahead.

In the afternoon, we started a new series on Netflix, "My Little Reindeer," which I highly recommend. It is exceptionally well-made.

After these moments of rest, we found a bit of courage to go with my partner to our land to continue working on our tiny house. Now that we have finished the floor in the first room, we wanted to decide on the paint color for the walls.

However, we ended up focusing on the caravan that serves as the second room of our tiny house. We still have some laminate flooring left and wanted to install it on the floor of the caravan. Before doing this, it was necessary to dismantle the existing wooden casings. They are practical, but not very attractive. And since this is where we plan to place our bed, it was better to remove them. This way, it will also be easier to install the laminate flooring.

The issue is that everything was built with nails. In fact, you can generally gauge the age of a construction by the materials used. Many years ago, there were no electric screwdrivers, or they weren't as accessible as they are today. So, to avoid manually driving screws with a screwdriver, nails were primarily used.

The problem with these nails is that without breaking them, they are extremely difficult to remove. We spent a tremendous amount of time dismantling the four casings.

And when there were screws, they were completely rusted. Most of them broke when we tried to remove them.

Once we had emptied the caravan, we noticed that one area was bulging. Upon lifting the linoleum, we discovered that the floor was rotten. So, we started scraping it off.

We will probably need to remove the rotten floor and replace it with a new one. It's better to do this anyway to ensure a healthy living space.

Now we need to figure out how to remove the unhealthy part of the floor. As it was starting to get dark and cold, we simply swept up to clean our work area, and then we went back up to my aunt's house.
