Through the fog
Did you know that the difference between fog and mist is that with the former one cannot see more than 1000 metres and the latter, mist, one can; that's my understanding of it anyway. So, I'm calling this mornings "white stuff" fog because visibility was way down, at least on my way up into the hills early this morning. It cleared as the morning wore on but it was cold and the fog wasn't in a hurry to leave.
I went to my gun range today for a sneaky run and gun shoot which was pretty cool because I was fast and accurate, despite not having shot for a couple weeks, and that's always good...and my expectation. Of course, I talked some shit with some of the lads and gals and that's also a good thing.
After a couple hours it was time to push on and I decided to take a drive around to see what I could see, maybe hit a few trails, figuring that the fog in the hills, whilst difficult to see through, would make for some nice scenery. I wandered about, hit some tracks that, if I'm honest, weren't as gnarly as I'd hoped they would be and generally had a good time spinning up the wheels a little and flexing the suspension on the Big Dog, my four wheel drive.
I headed home, after having a legit Cornish pasty and coffee for lunch in a little country town called Williamston and the rest of the day will be spent cleaning guns (this will get done tomorrow), reading, doing some research on some stuff I can't tell you about, writing some stuff I can't tell you about and a couple conversations that I can't tell you about. Later tonight, I'll resume watching House of Cards on Netflix.
I had a nice day today, solitary, just me and the tracks and the fog and guns and...ok, I was shotting with others so not completely solitary, but a nice day all the same even despite the heavy fog.

It's good that even with the fog you were able to get some shooting done. Sometimes that stuff can be so thick and heavy you can't see who's next to ya. Glad you had a good day though.
I was shooting in an urban setting today, a building complex," which the military would call a "kill box," used for training purposes. No fog, just strobe lights, darkness, doors to kick, rooms to clear...the fun stuff.
It's been a good week man, that news I was hoping for came through and forward progress will be the result. I hope you've had a good one and the weekend is good too. It'd be good to go for a shoot together huh? (Assuming you still run and gun.)
I haven't been a run and gunner like that for years. But I still put some lead down range every blue moon or so. So yeah, I would love to shoot with you if the chance ever arose. I would probably learn a ton.

Haha, I'm sure you're just being modest and besides, that muscle memory will come back quickly. I shoot a lot (a lot) so I'm probably sharper than others but just like it doesn't take long to diminish, it doesn't take long to come back.
Yeah, I think the key is muscle memory. I am out of shape and can tell when I start getting lazy after shooting for a while. I was never the best of shooters to begin with, but good enough for an RTO.
Don't worry, I can do a pretty good impression of a drill instructor. You'll be in shape in no time.

Although it sounds dangerous, I like the way the landscape looks in fog from the inside of a car, as long as someone else is driving, I would despair.
In my country, the fogs almost always occur when there is an increase in temperature during the day, that is, at night it is cold, and very early in the morning a deadly mist begins to fall, and if you don't cover yourself you could catch a terrible cold...
But, the ones who get the best fogs are the English, right?
Although for them it's normal to have them every day.
The time we take for ourselves is also very important for our mental health, so let's fill it up.
It can be a little dangerous I guess, but I know what I'm doing after many years of off-roading and so it's completely safe mostly.
It's common for the UK to experience fog and mist and they have sea mist roll in too which I've experienced...hard to see through that, it's like soup.
The term "soupy" to characterise the sea mist I imagine is because it produces a stickier humidity around oneself.
Exactly, I meant that I would be afraid to drive in fog as I've never done it, and to think that my myopia would betray me much less so...something very different for people who are used to it.
But the real tricky thing is to practice shooting in that fog.
Soupy as in it's thick I guess...hmm, I wonder what soupy fog might taste like? Add some buttered crusty bread and one could be in for a delightful meal.

Wow, that's some heavy fog. I think the only time I've experience that or something worse was when I was up in the mountains. I'm glad that you're also able to enjoy shooting and your new truck.

I hadn't realised the difference between fog and mist, I only said that fog is thicker but I had no idea how many metres.
Here sometimes in summer it happens, especially a fog that seems to come from Africa. It makes the landscapes different and interesting. For example the first picture I love it even with the fog.
It looks like you had a beautiful day, me here with the household stuff, you know. Luckily it won't be as hot as yesterday.

We have some really good pasties in my neck of the woods too. There used to be a huge Cornish presence in the northern part of Michigan when the copper boom was happening. It's become one of the regional favorites up in that area. I always want to run some two tracks with my truck, but then I am reminded that it needs to haul our trailer home!
My State produced some 89% of Australia's copper production in the 1800's and the Cornish miners were predominant. On my mum's side our ancestry goes back the UK and Cornwall in particular so one could say I grew up on pasty's. Lol. Such a legit meal indeed.
They are so good! I try to get one anytime I am up in the keewenaw peninsula or copper harbor area of Michigan. It just goes to show how skillful the Cornish miners were that they traveled the world like that.
