Live action: Victor Harbour, South Australia

v- (3).jpg

I'm coming at you live from Victor Harbour on what is a glorious day and one I've been waiting to share with my awesome nephew @mrbonkers for a long time. I used to come here with my parents from a young age for day trips and the occasional weekender and I have fond memories of it so bringing my nephew here seemed to be a no brainer.

Victor Harbour is a seaside town south of Adelaide and about 130 kilometres from where I live and I'll admit that it doesn't always look this glorious as the weather isn't always perfect but it's a nice place to visit for a little getaway. It's actually awesome when there's a storm as massive waves crash onto Granite Island...that's something cool to see.

We walked over to Granite Island and walked right around it, tried to see some penguins but they were all hiding it seems and spent some time wandering about and came back to the mainland via the Clydesdale horse-drawn tram that I used to ride on as a little kid as well.

The horse-drawn tram...the very one I first saw and rode on back about fifty years ago.

The new jetty we walked over to Granite Island on - I'd not been on this one before today.

What remains of the old jetty I used to walk over when I was a kid until it was replaced due to being dilapidated. In the distance, you can see the point of land called The Bluff which I refer to below.

That's about it for today's live action post, it's time to get back to the day I'm enjoying. Have a good day y'all, I know I will, and am!

I'm surprised you didn't put this post in the crap pictures community. Those are absolutely horrible! :) Looks like a beautiful day and a beautiful place! I can see why you enjoyed going there as a kid and why you keep being drawn back to it as an adult.

Yeah, totally shit photos.

I only had a short time to spend so only added a few. I'll probably do a longer post at some stage in the future, if I remember, and the shit photography community is where it's likely to end up.

MrBonkers still single digits and already with a glorious beard ;D

That's a decent sized tram, draught horses are strong O_O

Looks like quite a lovely spot for a quick getaway, and definitely one to keep going back to.

Yeah, he looks just like me.

It's a good spot for sure, a favourite of people from Adelaide and has been since the 1860's. It's quite rich in history and is simply a nice place to visit.

I have fallen in love with the little I have seen in your post about Victor Harbour, wow it is a special place, and I am very struck by the fact that you say that there is not always good weather, while I was reading I was thinking about powerful storms and a very unruly sea, just as you describe it. I would love to visit Australia sometime, and if there are horses that lead to the tram then even more, sounds like a perfect ride along the coast...

There's many places like this in Australia; I mean a lot! It's a pretty amazing and diverse country, and very large.

Most people who go to Victor Harbour like it and yep, in bad weather, stormy or cold, it has an appeal as well...perfect weather to watch some big waves, do some whale watching (May to October) and have some tasty food in one of the many places to eat.

Wow, the whale thing sounds even better. The closest thing for me has been the dolphins in the aquarium 😅 How nice that you live close to places like that, it's a privilege 🙏🏽

A beautiful sea. I'd love to walk along that coast and, above all, ride that horse-drawn train. It's an incredible experience. A wonderful day for you and your nephew.😘

It's a very likeable place and a superb place to spend some time; there's a lot history to discover as well and in the right season is where we can see whales moving to their nursery areas, breaching as they move along the coast. Pretty spectacular to see.

That takes me back to my youth. I used to frequent Victor Harbour regularly as a kid growing-up in Adelaide. Our favourite spot for the beach itself was just round the corner in Horseshoe Bay.

I went there also to show my nephew and have some great photos I'll post someday.

Really yes, it looks like a paradise. I would live in the water! But only the shore, away from the sharks!

Such gorgeous shitography!! I'm sure that you've captured every shade of blue in the universe😍 Each photo stretches out to the horizon and infinity. That 'rock' dwarfs @mrbonkers 😄. We really are so tiny in this vast world.

Not too bad huh? It's easy to photograph scenery like that, even for a photographer as shit as I am!

Is that the spot where the Maremma dog saved the penguins?

It's easy to see why you love that spot, I'm glad you get to share it with your nephew!

Nope, that was at Warrnambool on Middle Island. They gaurd them from predators which has helped the declining population build back up.

Oh, I just wondered because you mentioned penguins. Hopefully they will survive the climate change...
