Sports and Betting. FIFA World Cup 2023 and the HiveBuzz Contest

I like sports. When I was a child I ran after a ball with most children my age and older, rode my bike and everything else children do when they are worry-free and happy.

As I grew up we moved, and later in life open spaces where children played started to be replaced by buildings under construction, so children of these days have to gather together in artificially landscaped places to be able to play, or enlist to do some kind of sport or dance to release their energy and maybe give them some focus in their lives, at least in some cases.

I don't know. Maybe this way is more efficient. But coming back from those early days, I feel it certainly cuts a big chunk of what childhood should be about: playing with other children without parents constantly watching and intruding. Even resolving conflicts between children would be much better for them later in life, when possible.

Anyway, I started saying that I like sports. I do. I don't practice any anymore, unfortunately. But as a spectator I think I like pretty much all sports. Maybe I like them so much because I was below average in all of them, even if I would have liked to be better. Except mental ones, I think I am above average in those "sports".

One huge aspect to sport is betting. Often the betting part is more important than the actual sport. I don't know if that's sad or if that reflects the fact that most people are in fact spectators and only a fraction are the actual athletes competing. What I find despising is when an athlete (or insider of any kind) bets for the athlete to lose. I have no problem if they bet to win. But I do if they bet to lose, because that means they are planning to intentionally lose the game (or certain aspects of the game). But that's a subject for a full post.

When I was young I did a little betting on different sports myself. Overall, I didn't lose or win much. But I gave up because there were too many "surprises" and I didn't like that it wasn't predictable. At least not for me.

Well.. time to change that! HiveBuzz has these World Cup events where we can bet on the outcome of the matches. Now the FIFA World Cup 2023 for women is undergoing.

Source

I participated on the last two WC events from HiveBuzz for men, in 2018 and 2022, and, unlike sports betting, this is actually relaxing for me (instead of being tensed to catch the right result) and can be done without knowing anything about the respective sport, as history showed.

There is a 1 HIVE enlisting fee to prevent spamming and to build up a prize pool. From that and from sponsors' donations and curation rewards, I can tell from experience that most people who participate throughout the entire event will end up in profit, even though only a few will win the jackpot.

Personally, I joined and cast my first two votes. Unlike the men's WC from last winter, I won't be watching the games though. Will see what will come from that. Good luck to everyone participating!

I'm glad you could enjoy the relaxing and betting on sports with HiveBuzz @gadrian. I never liked sports except when my sister swam on the swim team in high school. I liked horses and the jumping events and dressage events but never thought of horseback riding as sports. I don't like horse racing because of the cruelty. I love looking at the horses though. I miss the way it use to be for kids. It's so much harder for them now with both parents working. It is so much different now than it was in the 60's amd 70's. Have a great rest of the week! 😊 Barb !BBH !CTP #ctp

Not everyone likes sports, Barb. Yeah, there are sports where cruelty to animals is involved. I'd say horse racing isn't one of the most cruel there is, but probably the other ones are illegal (like dog fighting, but I wouldn't call this a sport anyway, and I definitely couldn't watch something like this).

Yes that's true @gadrian and I agree to some point about horse racing not being the cruelest. I have read that the horses are drugged and run until they break their legs. The drugging is really bad. Then when the older race horses retire and are not good enough for racing anymore, the owners ell them for meat and are shipped off to Japan and Europe to be inhumanely slaughtered. You need to read how they are treated at the slaughter houses. You might have already. REading about the treatment can change peoples minds towards the cruel racing industry. The big factory farms are extremely bad. I hardly eat meat because I have read how the farm animals are treated. This is why I am so against horse racing now, because of the details of drugging breaking legs and treating horses like they are just machines and meat which they aren't. Yes dog fighting is terrible and so is cock fighting. The owners attach razor blades to the roosters when they fight and make them fight to the death too. It is disgusting. I have read about horse fighting still being practiced in some foreign countries and I can't remember where. I'm not trying to get you down or anyone down @gadrian I am trying to show you or get you Aware. Awareness is important in stopping these cruel practices. In our country the wild mustangs are rounded up, badly mistreated, and sold for meat usually and the horse end up going to horse meat factories in other countries that treat them so inhumanely. The dog & cat meat trade is still going on in some countries and the Humane Society is trying to get them all shut down. Awareness, spreading the word, and education about how animals are sentient beings with feelings and emotions just like ours is the key. Even lizards and snakes have feelings like ours. Look on YouTube for someone with a pet lizard and watch how the lizard enjoys the petting. It's their bodies that are different, the way they look that is different. This is the only way to stop all of this. I hope I did not offend you. I have been working hard since 2000 spreading awareness to stop so much cruelty going on in the world. Sorry for going on @gadrian this has been so important to me for a long time for over 20 years. Have a great week ahead! 🤗😊 !BBH CTP

Unfortunately, I became aware of most of these practices. When you follow the whole chain, maybe horse racing is even worse. Not a fan of horse racing anyway.

(Edited)

Oh, OK @gadrian well they are different kinds of worse and they might all are equally bad in some way. I was very interested in horse racing as a little girl and teenager until I learned more and more about the business/industry involved. I started learning a tiny bit when I took riding lessons in high school and brushed horses, swept floors, and watered the horses at the stable to pay for my riding lessons. Some of the horses were off the race track. I got to brush some of the ex-race horses because I was very quiet and tuned into animals. The lady owner at the stable liked to calm down and retrained the ex-race horses and help them to be owned and ridden by regular people. I didn't learn about the worst until very recently when I started signing all kinds of animal welfare petitions the last 20 years. I was a horse nut and wanted to be able to ride horses in any way. I just adored horses ever since I was a toddler. I dreamed of being a jockey like Elizabeth Taylor in her movie 'National Velvet."😆 Well I guess she tricked everyone in the movie, if I remember correctly, that she was a boy jockey. I would have been too heavy as an adult in real life. 😅 Have a great week @gadrian 🌟😊🌟👍 !BBH !CTP

I saw that they started up another world cup contest and I think it's definitely going to be profitable so long as people make sure to vote every single day.

Yep, that's the condition. Stay consistent every day and don't vote completely random, to actually get as many badges as possible, since that affects the winnings at the end.

I don't follow FIFA at all but last years contest was a lot of fun.
I have started my bets on this years games.
Good luck, Adrian.
