My Bike Needed An Upgrade

Hello, hello! Long time no see!

While I did take occasional bike rides, I really have no clue how I missed writing about my experiences since I enjoy this activity so much! Anyway, what better way to kick off the new season than with an upgrade?

Actually, back when I wrote my introduction post about the bike I purchased as a self Birthday Gift, I mentioned there that I had in plan to cover my whole bike in stickers.

However, this was an initial plan a long way before getting my bike thinking that there was no colour on the bike that would make me want to keep it as it comes from the shop and that some stickers would definitely make it more unique and closer to my preferences.

Happy or not, the one I ended up purchasing came in a colour that I absolutely loved and which remains one of my favourite colours since I also use this in my gaming logo, but as time passed and some rides left their marks on the bike, I thought that it's finally the time to do this step.

Please don't pay too much attention to the background, I tried to edit it as best as I could to not distract you too much from the bike.

I also thought that before having my bike fully covered in stickers, it would be a lot better to start applying these on small sections of the bike while still keeping the crazy neon colour for a while.

But before going to the fun part, I started cleaning my bike first as it had plenty of dust and some mud as well. For that, I used wet wipes and then a dry washcloth to make sure nothing remained on the body of the bike.

Sadly some stains were a bit too hard to be cleaned with the wipes but at least I managed to clean the parts I was interested in. Also, I promised my baby (bike) that she will enjoy a nice wash when the season ends, so she will look a lot prettier in a few months!

For the stickers part, I went along with my 100 pcs of camping, hiking and mountain ones which represent pretty much my biggest passion, to which I also added 50 pcs of cat-themed stickers.

I had a plan to purchase a lot more stickers that would represent more passions of mine. But since I wasn't too sure how many of these I would need and knew that I would wait a bit longer until having my bike entirely covered in stickers, I thought this would be enough. At least for now.

The first part I started with was the bike saddle. Or better said, the iron supporting this one.
The idea came at the last moment as I never thought about having this side covered in stickers but since I cleaned it as well and also raised it a bit more for my height, I thought that I would apply there the stickers first and in case I don't like them I will take them down as no one really pays attention on this side of the bike.

Either way, the result turned out more nicely than I thought, so it remained like this.

The next parts covered in stickers were the pedals. Sadly, the material here is made of plastic which doesn't make the stickers remain there for too long, but I'm planning to add a layer of protection for the stickers and that might as well solve this problem too.

I also intend to replace the pedals with ones made of iron that will match the colour of the bike, so hopefully they will look a lot better then. Right now I am not sure I like them that much.

Another small but meaningful detail was added to the bicycle horns. Sadly the sticker is a bit too big to be fully read but it says "Work to eat. Eat to live. Live to bike." - which I fully agree with and it's definitely very motivating when I feel like abandoning a long ride that turns out more exhausting than planned.

This was also a very spontaneous idea when I saw the sticker and thought that should be applied somewhere where I could see and read it anytime I felt like giving up.

And last but not least, the bicycle fork. This was the main part of the bike that made me want to apply stickers on it as I've seen a fork that was fully designed with stickers as part of it but since it was pretty expensive I thought that I would simply apply stickers on my fork as well instead of buying a new one.

This is actually the single part where I applied stickers and about which I am 100% convinced I made a good pick. I am still wondering if the stickers look nice on the pedals and saddle parts, so any thoughts regarding these would be very welcome.

Also, do you think my bike would look like "too much" or "too busy" if applying stickers on the body too? Namely, where the neon colour can be seen?

This is the final look of the bike, and I can't wait to get it down the streets and mountain paths pretty soon!

I'm postponing the moment a bit longer until I apply some materials to protect the stickers in front of mud and rain, but once they are done, I can't wait to take it out there and create new stories.

Once again, feel free to share any thoughts on this as I am always open to suggestions and enjoy reading others' opinions. I wish everyone a nice day whether it happens from a bike saddle or not!

Indeed. The final result is an image without stickers!

Funny idea by the way!

The final result DOES have stickers. Just please look at the indicated areas in my post regarding the placement of the stickers.. namely the fork, pedals and saddle bar!

No problem, I can see where the confusion came from. But as stated in my article, I wanted to test these stickers on small sections before having the full bike covered in them, including the coloured body.

I see I was wrong. I was looking at the triangular frame part and didn't notice them. Okay, I think this is tastefully done. The frame does get a lot of attention especially with that color.

In the very last photo of in your post, I expected to see it with all of its stickers. I think that is what you meant to put. You can edit these posts. I sometimes wonder how many people actually read mine honestly but here you have proof someone read yours.

Actually... I mentioned in my post that the stickers are not going on the coloured section, but just on the indicated areas. But maybe in the future that will happen too! 😉
