These Boots Are Made For Walking! - How Do You Keep Yourself Fit?
After almost 2 weeks of vacation and months of being occupied with other responsibilities of life, I finally have time again to write some blogs! This brings me to my first blog after this vacation and it is something that I realized for myself. Some of you might consider this a boring topic since it does not have to do with the major sports like soccer, football or others but I really want to talk about walking with you! I don’t mean competitive walking but really the everyday thing that every one of us is (hopefully) able to do! In this article I want to discuss this “boring” activity and why I do think that it is very much underrated in the sports community. With that being said, I am more than open for discussions on this topic and very curious of what you guys have to say! 😊
Walking Better Than Running?
First and foremost, why do I bring it up? Well, if somebody like me have very damaged knees due to multiple injuries it is priority number one to keep the rest of these joints as safe as you can. In the end they wont get better with age! But what if you want to do something for your cardio? I really loved running back in the days, but I am really feeling every step if I start running for a longer period of time. Well, walking could be a great alternative!
If you are able to walk in a good speed where your hearth frequency is rising than it should have a very similar effect like a run, but without the damaging effect of the constant tension on your knees! I know, I know, some of you might say that it depends on the running technique that people are using but at this point it would take far too long time to re-educate myself to tun correctly. This is why I discovered the walk for me.
Not only that but I am now doing several walks a day. After lunch, after work and sometimes before going to bed. It is not only a great training and helps to burn some calories but it also helps you to turn off your mind or cool off from a hard work day. At least for me it helps to keep a cool head in difficult situations.
What Is The Goal?
But if we go back to the sport perspective: What would be the goal of this activity? Well, many people would have the goal of fat burning as the main goal in such cardio activities. And while I think that walking has this side effect of burning some calories I would not expect to see a six pack after 2 walks a day in a month. I think for me, the main purpose of the walk is to actually have my hearth to have some activity during the day. While most of us are probably having an office job it is very important to get some exercise for your hearth. In the end it is one of (if not even the most) important muscle in our bodies!
With this being said, keeping this muscle entertained and in shape should be one of our highest priorities to have a healthy life. Wouldn’t you agree? I think that there are other activities that are helping the hearth out and that if you are generally active, it should not be a problem to have a healthy hearth. But if you are a person like me who need to be in the office for 10 hours a day and just do not have the energy of additional exercises, a 15 minute walk a day can already be very beneficial!
Conclusion
All in all, I wanted to share my newly gained experience in this regard. I do think it is important to mention that this is not health advice or what so ever. With this being said, I am really interested on how you are keeping yourself active. I know that we have some soccer players and even former rugby players in our community here. I would be very interested how you guys are keeping yourself fit or at least your hearth in check? I am really open for discussions in this regard! 😊
