From an Australian perspective, it is amazing just how far cricket players requirements have changed in even the last 10 years. Beer used to be more common than water, and now it is a far stricter environment. For only 90% of the time of course.

Funny you say that as I also played cricket back in those days and these guys drank more than any other team sport I have been involved with. The guys used to arrive at the ground if they hadn't slept over in the changing rooms with bloodshot eyes reeking like a brewery. The whole weekend was consumed by beer and the amount of water everyone drank during the day as you were sweating out last nights beer. Things changed dramatically and possibly for the better not that performances have improved that much. Herschel Gibbs was an alcoholic and he did alright.
