Boy's Last Wrestling Tournament - Saturday
Wow, that was a day yesterday. We were all out of the house a little after 6:30 am and headed to the valley. We got to the school 10 minutes before check ins started for 5-6 year olds and we got our spot at the top of the bleachers. R got checked in then did some warm ups on the mat with the few other kids his age from our team.
There is a site that we had to signup for that had all the brackets and mat assignments and everything and we barely were able to get R to his first match as I was trying to get it setup. @stryeyz went with him to the mat and I stayed on the bleachers. They wanted fewest people possible by the mats to make everything run smoother.
His match took a bit to start as the computer needed to be restarted then once it got going he tried hard but the other kid was able to get the win on points.
R's second match went about the same as the first with him trying hard but the other kid was able to get more take downs and more points.
It was a quick 2 matches and out for R and he was done for the day. His attitude was good for both matches and he tried hard but I think not having a real practice for 2 weeks made it a bit hard or him to remember what he needed to do.
J got checked in at 10:15 am and headed out to warmup with his team mates. They did a good warmup with focused moves and some good rolling.
J's first match was tough for him. He got taken down a couple times and only managed an escape point. He lost on points. I think again it was the lack of a practice in 2 weeks that made it harder for him to get into the match quickly.
J's second match went FAR better than his first. He did what he should have done in the first match which was take the other kid down and score 2 points each time. He kept control most of the match and nearly had the kid pinned.
He ended getting a technical win on points with 17-2. He was pretty aware of the vast difference between the two matches and I kept telling him to remember it and to use that with the next matches.
His third match was crazy close. His opponent and his skills were closely matched and it went back and forth with one in control then the other.
It was 13 seconds left in the match and he was down by one point and our coach and the other coach disagreed on two points to J for a reversal than with 3 seconds left J got the reversal and the two points to win the match by one point.
You can see the other kid was really frustrated at the last second loss. J barely managed to sneak the win. That put him with a last match that was for 3rd place.
It happened that his last match was against the same kid as his first match. I reminded him that he had seen the kid before and knew what he did. Unfortunately J couldn't get take downs again and the other kid was able to. It was a hard match for him and when he lost he broke down in frustration. He had gotten 4th place for the 4th time this season. Every tournament he was in he got 4th place. He really wanted to get 3rd just once.
We consoled him back at the seats but he was done and wanted to go home.
It took us little time to get packed up and to the car for the half hour drive home. As soon as we got home the spa got a good dose of chlorine than after it mixed for a bit we all went for a well deserved soak.
I told J that there would be wrestling camps this summer and he seemed to be a bit excited for the idea so we will see if he wants to when it comes time. Both boys want to wrestle again next year.
I got a fire going in the pit for the afternoon but ended up not grilling since it was a bit too late to get anything thawed.
We watched the UFC to finish off the night.
Today I am going to be back at work on the fence and making gates. I will grill for sure tonight as I think a nice bison steak dinner is in order to celebrate the wrestling season for the boys.

This is really interesting. We don't do stuffs like this in my country so I only see kids wrestle in movies.
That's cool! Keep encouraging them 💪

When I was a kid, I used to love watching WWE but somehow it seems a way too aggressive sport for me to have a kid doing it. But I like the performances of J 💪🏻
