Vadim Meller was born in St. Petersburg and his birth time coincided with the imperial government, his father was a high official of the time, although he was not entirely Russian, had Swedish and Italian origins which in turn belonged to the nobility.

As for his studies we have that he went to the university of Kiev, in addition he returned to land of his parents in gin, Switzerland where he had contact with the art beginning to see classes with Franz Roubaud, the same professor recommended him this way it was as he knows Paul Klee arriving to belong to the group Der Blaue Reiter.

In 1908 he graduated from law school and studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. At that time abstract art was being born from the hand of Wassily Kandinsky, who would become one of his best friends. In 1914 ay was linked to different artistic circles, this is how he got to know painters in France, where he moved specifically to the city of Paris, where he began to exhibit his works, among his first presentations is the group exhibitions with Kasimir Malevich, Sonia Delaunay, Alexander Archipenko and Aleksandra Ekster in the famous salon of the independents, had the opportunity to exhibit his work with artists such as Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and André Derain.

After spending a season in Paris from 1914 to 1917 when he returns to Kiev and decides to install his workshop to work traditional painting or easel, and made some extra work as a costume designer for theater and dance companies, also made advertising work standing out as a graphic designer, at the time of the revolution managed to make some work that allowed him to become known as an artist, work with a scenography company in charge of the dancer Bronislava Nijinska.

Later he dedicated himself to give classes in the academy of art of Kiev, that's how he organized with other painters such as David Burliuk (co-founder), Alexander Bogomazov (co-founder), Vasiliy Yermilov, Victor Palmov and Alexander Khvostenko-Khvostov and formed the association of revolutionary artists of Ukraine.

In 1925 he returned to Paris where he received the gold medal for designing the interior of the theatre of Berezil, the merit he received in the international exhibition of art and decoration of the city of Paris.

Then he returned to Ukraine where he was director of the institute of painting and sculpture of the academy of the university, at that time worked as a principal actor of the theater until 1953.

He was a multi-faceted artist who produced numerous pictorial works but also assumed other areas of art such as theater, sculpture and even music, leaving an invaluable legacy in the development of techniques as well as writings on art aesthetics. Nowadays he is a reference for abstract and constructivist art as well as for interior decorators of scenic spaces as well as for graphic designers.
