COMMUNITY SERVICE: Painting the basketball court - SERVICIO COMUNITARIO: Pintando la cancha de Basket [ENG-ESP]

Hello friends, I hope you are very well, today I want to show you something different, more than a craft or some recycling work, this is about helping my community. Where I live the court is very deteriorated, months ago I made some tights to be able to play basketball which turned out great, this time I took some of my HIVE funds to be able to buy special paint for courts, since the floor is deteriorated and very slippery, many have had injuries so I made it my goal to help in this regard and I was able to buy two gallons of paint, which I used to paint the slippery free throw area. This has been gratifying because somehow this beautiful blockchain made this help to my community possible. I'll show you how all the work we did happened.

Hola amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, hoy quiero mostrarles algo distinto, más que una manualidad o algún trabajo de reciclaje esto se trata de una ayuda hacia mi comunidad. Por donde vivo la cancha se encuentra muy deteriorada, hace meses atrás hice unas mallas para poder jugar basket las cuales quedaron geniales, esta vez tomé algo de mis fondos de HIVE para poder comprar pintura espacial para canchas, ya que el piso se encuentra deteriorado y muy resbaloso, muchos han tenido lesiones así que me puse como meta ayudar en este sentido y pude adquirir dos galones de pintura, la cual utilicé para pintar la zona de tiros libres que estaba resbalosa. Esto ha sido algo gratificante porque de alguna manera esta hermosa blockchain hizo posible esta ayuda a mi comunidad. Les mostraré como sucedió todo el trabajo que hicimos.

This is what the surface of the court looked like, as I mentioned before, we were going to paint the free throw area, and over time we intend to paint it completely. The last time it was fixed was 8 years ago, so the paint is already very worn and the free throw area area looked like a skating rink because of how slippery it was.

Así se veía la superficie de la cancha, como mencione antes, íbamos a pintar la zona de los tiros libres, y con el tiempo tenemos el propósito de pintarla totalmente. La última vez que se arregló fue hace 8 años así que la pintura ya esta muy desgastada y la zona de tiros libres parecía una pista de patinaje de lo resbalosa que estaba.

The security fence was also deteriorated, with recycled tubes we did some tricks and with welding we repaired them. Also the metal mesh we fixed using heavy gauge wire to fix it.

La cerca de seguridad también estaba deteriorada, con tubos reciclados hicimos algunos trucos y con soldaduras las reparamos. También la red de metal la arreglamos utilizando alambre de grueso calibre para arreglarlo.

The first step was to scrape the smoothest surface with an emery board, since if we applied the paint directly it would be lost, so we removed all that shine that it had very carefully, we spent two emery discs since the area was quite large. By doing so, we make sure that the paint adheres better and that it is more anti-slip.

El primer paso fue raspar la superficie más lisa con un esmeril ya que si echábamos la pintura directamente se iba a perder, así que quitamos todo ese brillo que tenía con mucho cuidado, gastamos dos discos de esmeril ya que la zona era bastante grande. Haciendo nos aseguramos de que la pintura se adhiera mejor y que sea más antirresbalante.

Then we cleaned the floor with plenty of water and soap, so we removed all the dirt from the dust that remained as a residue of the concrete, we also removed all the bushes and grass that grew in the surroundings and in bags we placed all the garbage and plastic that was thrown away on the floor. After letting it dry, we began to paint, green paint for the area under the ring and yellow for the free throw area.

Luego limpiamos el piso con abundante agua y jabón, así quitamos todo el sucio del polvo que quedó como residuo del concreto, también quitamos todo el monte y la hierba que crecía por los alrededores y en bolsas colocamos toda la basura y el plástico que estaba tirado por el suelo. Después de dejar secar comenzamos a pintar, pintura verde para la zona debajo del aro y amarillo para la zona de los tiros libres.

We started first with the green paint, as it was very thick we diluted it with water, that way it was easier to paint, the best thing is that the quality of the paint does not drop when mixed with water.

Comenzamos en primer lugar con la pintura verde, como estaba muy espesa la diluímos con agua de esa manera fue más facil de pintar, lo mejor es que la calidad de la pintura no baja a al mezclarla con agua.

Another important thing we did was repair the imperfections in the floor, there were small holes that we fixed with a cement mix and then polished to be able to paint. With white paint in oil we made the outline, we did not erase the old lines in order to guide ourselves in a better way.

Otra cosa importante que hicimos fue reparar las imprefecciones del suelo, había pequeños huecos que lo arreglamos con mezcla de cemento y luego pulimos para poder pintar. Con pintura blanca en aceite hicimos el delineado, no borramos las viejas líneas para así poder guiarnos de mejor forma.

After several hours painting under the inclement sun we began to finish with the details. I thought that this was something easy but I admit that it was not, it has a process that must be followed so that the work is well done, although we were several volunteers, it still took us almost the whole day just to paint that small area. But there is no rush, little by little we will do the work until we complete the entire field.

Después de varias horas pintando bajo el inclemente sol comenzamos a terminar con los detalles. Pensé que esto era algo facil pero reconozco que no lo fue, tiene un proceso que hay que respetar para que el trabajo quede bien hecho, aunque éramos varios voluntarios igual nos llevó casi todo el día solamente pintar esa pequeña área. Pero no hay apuro, poco a poco iremos haciendo el trabajo hasta completar toda la cancha.

This is how the final work turned out, the field was very beautiful and we fixed other things such as the installation to soon have lights and thus play at night. We already have a plan drawn up to complete the entire restoration of the pitch, thanks to HIVE we took the first step. I feel very happy and proud to have shared this with my own community and to fix something where I like to be, since basketball is my favorite sport and it is the one that I practice the most along with cycling. And also being able to talk with other people about how I was able to raise the money for the painting, was a different and tangible way for some to understand the importance of HIVE and blockchain technology. Así quedó el trabajo final, muy linda quedó la cancha y arreglamos otras cosas como la instalación para pronto tener luces y así jugar por las noches. Ya tenemos un plan trazado para completar toda la restauración de la cancha, gracias a HIVE dimos el primer paso. ME siento muy contento y orgulloso de haber compartido esto con mi propia comunidad y arreglar algo donde me gusta estar, ya que el basketball es mi deporte favorito y es el que más practico junto al ciclismo. Y también el poder conversar con otras personas de como pude reunir el dinero para la pintura, fue una forma diferente y palpable de que algunos entiendan la importancia de HIVE y la tecnología blockchain.
