A little bit of ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati
Greetings community, I would like to share some comments and thoughts about what I got to see of the Cincinnati Masters and something more....
I don't intend this to be an analysis because I'm no Tennis expert, but rather to spout some thoughts from astute ignorance and feelings.
Alcaraz vs Djokovic
As we may well know, Djokovic managed to beat the young Spaniard 7-5 6-7 6-7. I was expecting a pretty intense match and so it was, I had no favorites as I like both of them as players.
When I enter Tik Tok or Twitter I find clips of the last points but the ones I enjoyed the most were those of the first set, I think there were more naughty and aggressive plays. In some plays Djokovic hit unreachable balls where Carlos Alcaraz ran in an incredible way and still failed to respond. Something that I think is splendid on the part of both of them.
Alcaraz is recognized for being a very complete player, it is to admire his ability to reach unreachable balls. As well as his serve and powerful shots.
On the other hand I loved Djokovic's game, very mentally tough and managed his match very well despite the notorious fatigue. His strokes were also admirable, but I think that in the longest exchanges was where there was more show and felt the highest level of tennis.
Many people are saying that it was the best match of the year and it was certainly a great experience to live it as a spectator. Although Djokovic was the winner, I think Alcaraz played at the highest level, in some points you could say that Djokovic had the advantage but certainly there was never certainty who was going to win and it showed when Djokovic was one point away from winning the tournament and he double faulted and that's where Alcaraz took everything to Tie-Break.
There was a moment where Alcaraz started to serve with a lot of power and short, which worked about 4 times as Novak was unable to answer that serve.
I loved watching the match and I expect much more spectacle for the US Open, I'm sure the level will not disappoint.
I had also seen Carlos Alcaraz in the Toronto tournament where he didn't do so well.
There was a match vs Hubert Hurkacz where Alcaraz was seen with more level but I really liked the style of this Pole, as he is quite calm, has good technique and in Cincinnati he showed much more level eliminating Tsitsipas with some very flawless points, also giving war once again vs the Spaniard in semifinal.
Things did not go in his favor, but I certainly hope to see him again because I found his tennis worthy of admiration.
On the other hand, Novak had a very interesting match vs Gael Monfils, there were long rallies where both ran incredible distances that made the court explode. Novak has if I remember correctly 19 wins vs Monfils. The Frenchman has a lot of experience and remains at a good level but has not yet managed to win against Novak.
So far my words about this great tournament, I hope to see more tennis from the US Open as the ranking will have a lot of movement and probably a great fight for top 1.
