Las ciudades de Minneapolis y Saint Paul (ésta última capital del estado de Minnesota), están separadas por el río Mississippi y otorgan como gemelas que son, el nombre del equipo asentado en el Target Field. El estado ocupa el centro norte de la unión americana y la realidad es poco lo que sé sobre su cultura y maravillas. Y es algo inherente a los estados centrales: el desconocimiento de la mayoría de turistas sobre ellos ¿La razón? Supongo tiene que ver con la condición de estar alejados del mar y la ventaja de las grandes urbes en los extremos oeste y este de la unión.

    Pero algo que sí sabemos es la condición de equipo favorecedor del pitcheo por encima de la ofensiva. Siempre ha sido así para los Mellizos y no deja de ser cierto, basado en la premisa "el buen pitcheo siempre será superior al buen bateo" Con ello en mente, los Mellizos de Minnesota jugaron para balance de 87 ganados y 75 perdidos. Un performance que les dió el campeonato de la división, pero fue insuficiente para ir directo al campeonato por el banderín. Dicho esto, solo les alcanzó para jugar la ronda de comodines, la cual superaron al dar cuenta de los Azulejos de Toronto y para caer ante los Astros de Houston en la siguiente ronda.

     The cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul (the latter being the capital of the state of Minnesota) are separated by the Mississippi River and, as twins, give their name to the team based at Target Field. The state occupies the north center of the American union and the reality is that I know little about its culture and wonders. And it is something inherent to the central states: the lack of knowledge of most tourists about them. I suppose it has to do with the condition of being far from the sea and the advantage of the big cities in the west and east ends of the union.

     But one thing we do know is that the Twins are a team that favors pitching over offense. It has always been that way for the Twins and it is true, based on the premise "good pitching will always be superior to good hitting". With that in mind, the Minnesota Twins played to a record of 87 wins and 75 losses. A performance that gave them the division championship, but was insufficient to go straight to the pennant championship. That said, it was only enough for them to play in the wild card round, which they got out of by beating the Toronto Blue Jays, and to fall to the Houston Astros in the next round.

     Por supuesto, los muchachos cumplieron con el objetivo de todo equipo cuando el torneo comienza: jugar en Octubre; sin embargo, es triste hacer tantos sacrificios durante la temporada solo para no llegar a la serie mundial. La ofensiva ocupó el lugar 21 de 30 equipos al batear para AVE de .243, por debajo de la media de las mayores. En contraste, los lanzadores se ocuparon de mantener el equipo a flote constituyendo el team en el peldaño número 6 de 30 rosters de pitcheo, al lanzar para EFE de 3.87.

     El responsable de una gran parte del trabajo colectivo, fue el único venezolano en el roster de 40: el abridor derecho Pablo López. En su primera temporada con los Twins, luego de ser canjeado por los Marlins a Minnesota por Luis Arráez (el campeón bate en la liga Nacional en 2023), López lanzó para una línea de EFE 3.66, ganó 11 juegos y perdió 8, repartió la friolera de 234 ponches en 194 innings completos y limitó a sus oponentes a un AVE de .238. Perfeccionó un nuevo lanzamiento llamado "sweeper" con el cual sacó de paso a los toleteros contrarios.

     Of course, the boys accomplished every team's goal when the season starts: to play in October; however, it is sad to make so many sacrifices during the season only to not make it to the World Series. The offense ranked 21st out of 30 teams by batting for AVE of .243, below the major league average. In contrast, the pitching staff managed to keep the team afloat, ranking 6th out of 30 pitching rosters, by pitching for an EFE of 3.87.

     The big man responsible for some of the collective work was the only Venezuelan on the 40-man roster: right-handed starter Pablo Lopez. In his first season with the Twins, after being traded by the Marlins to Minnesota for Luis Arráez (the National League batting champion in 2023), López pitched for a 3.66 EFE line, won 11 games and lost 8, handed out a whopping 234 strikeouts in 194 complete innings and limited his opponents to a .238 ERA. He perfected a new pitch called "sweapper" with which he got opposing hitters out of the way.

     Pablo lanzará el partido inaugural por tercera temporada consecutiva, lo que dice mucho a sus 28 años del status que ha logrado alcanzar. Mientras el mánager Rocco Baldelli y la gerencia intentaron mejorar la ofensiva en la temporada baja, el equipo celebró la elevación del ex-receptor Joe Mauer en la clase 2024 al salón de la fama en Cooperstown, NY. Los ojos de la ofensiva estarán sobre el novato de segundo año Royce Lewis, quien en la zafra pasada estableció un récord para el equipo al batear cuatro jonrones con las bases llenas en un período de 8 juegos. Ya bateó el primer grand slam en el spring training.

     Si los Mellizos pueden sostener el trabajo de sus lanzadores parecido al del año pasado y logran mejorar el aspecto ofensivo, podrán sortear las arremetidas de los Guardianes de Cleveland y los Tigres de Detroit en la batalla por el banderín de la división.      Pablo will pitch the opener for the third consecutive season, which speaks volumes at 28 years old about the status he has achieved. While manager Rocco Baldelli and management tried to improve the offense in the offseason, the team celebrated the elevation of catcher Joe Mauer in the Class of 2024 to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. The eyes of the offense will be on sophomore rookie Royce Lewis, who last season set a team record by hitting four home runs with the bases loaded in an 8-game span. He already hit the first grand slam in spring training.

     If the Twins can sustain the work of their pitchers similar to last year and improve offensively, they can weather the onslaught of the Cleveland Rangers and Detroit Tigers in the battle for the division pennant.
