Spring Training Medias Rojas de Boston || OPINION
Una de las dos urbes norteamericanas integrantes de nuestra lista "Ciudades por conocer" es Boston en el estado de Massachussets. Jamás nos han atraído las ciudades que están bajo un manto perenne de nubes, con las excepciones de Londres y la que describo. Hemos pensado siempre como un error, no haber hecho el sacrificio cuando visitamos Nueva York, pero eran tiempos de presupuestos limitados y las cataratas del Niágara le ganaron a la urbe de concreto ¿La visitaremos en el futuro? No lo sabemos, dependerá de ciertas condiciones y la primera de ellas es recuperar la vigencia del visado norteamericano.
Sueños aparte, los Medias Rojas de Boston están en período de reconstrucción, tal como indica el balance de 78 ganados y 84 perdidos, además de la última posición en la división este de la liga Americana. Pero no se engañen, un récord como ese los habría colocado de segundos en la división central ¿Cómo es esto posible? Pues sí, los tipos juegan en la más fuerte de todas las divisiones del béisbol y de allí se puede concluir no todo es para llorar. El equipo está encontrando poco a poco su identidad con el fin de asaltar dentro de un par de años el banderín de la liga.

One of the two North American cities on our "Cities to Know" list is Boston in the state of Massachusetts. We have never been attracted to cities that are under a perennial blanket of clouds, with the exceptions of London and the one I am describing. We have always thought it was a mistake not to have made the sacrifice when we visited New York, but those were times of limited budgets and Niagara Falls won out over the concrete city. We do not know, it will depend on certain conditions and the first of them is to recover the validity of the American visa.
Dreams aside, the Boston Red Sox are in a rebuilding period, as indicated by a 78-84 win-loss record and last place in the American League East division. But make no mistake, a record like that would have placed them second in the Central Division. Well yes, the guys play in the strongest of all baseball divisions and from that you can conclude it's not all to cry about. The team is slowly finding its identity in order to storm the league pennant in a couple of years.

Fenway Park fue testigo de una performance ofensiva a la altura de los grandes equipos, la línea colectiva apuntó a un AVE de .258 para ocupar el lugar 6 de 30 equipos, entonces ¿Dónde estuvo el descalabro? Ajá, lo adivinaron, el pitcheo hizo aguas y no fue capaz de parar a los contrarios, lanzando para EFE de 4.52 por encima de la media y ocupar el puesto 21 de 30 rosters. Permitieron batear a los oponentes para AVE de .256 y así no se puede. Si desea ser exitoso, jamás puede permitir que un colectivo de lanzadores sobrepase AVE de .235 a las baterías contrarias. Punto.
Solo dos venezolanos están en el roster de 40 y no hay invitados: el lanzador Winkelman Gonzalez (hijo) quien no pasó el corte y fue bajado al Worcester, sucursal triple "A" del equipo. El marabino y outfielder Wilyer Abreu quien se encuentra todavía en el campamento y ha tenido un spring training espantoso, bateando apenas 4 hits en 36 turnos para AVE de .111. Él está poniendo en riesgo su permanencia en el equipo grande, además de su protección en el roster de 40. Ojalá levante en los próximos días su bateo, porque no es que le sobren outfielders a los Medias Rojas.

Fenway Park witnessed an offensive performance at the height of the great teams, the collective line pointed to an AVE of .258 to rank 6th out of 30 teams, so where was the downfall? He is putting his permanence in the big team at risk, as well as his protection in the 40-man roster. Hopefully his batting will pick up in the next few days, because the Red Sox don't have a shortage of outfielders.

El manager puertorriqueño Alex Cora y la gerencia del equipo se han movido por las granjas de la organización para tapar los huecos. Para ser justo, las lesiones abundaron también en el equipo la temporada pasada (no sé que diablos pasa cuando hay Clásico Mundial de Béisbol, pero los jugadores parecen sufrir las exigencias de una larga temporada después de jugarlo), pero las firmas se concentraron en retener a los jugadores claves del roster, más allá de traer nombres rimbombantes del mercado de invierno.
Ayer terminó el "Spring Breakout" y los rosters fueron llevados a 40 jugadores (desde los 70 acordados), con el fin de dar cabida por una semana a las estrellas futuras que hacen vida en las ligas menores. Y los chicos prospectos de Boston supieron demostrar que hay talento de cara al futuro. Un mañana que se nos hace todavía lejano, porque no les servirá ahora para salir del sótano de la división. Así las cosas, quizás dentro de un par de años los Medias Rojas comiencen a ver los frutos, a pesar de estar teniendo un spring training sobresaliente (12 ganados - 8 perdidos). Nos leemos por allí.

Puerto Rican manager Alex Cora and the team's management have moved around the organization's bullpen to plug the holes. And Boston's young prospects were able to show that there is talent for the future. A tomorrow that is still far away, because it will not help them now to get out of the basement of the division. As things stand, perhaps in a couple of years the Red Sox will begin to see the fruits, despite having an outstanding spring training (12 wins - 8 losses). We'll read you there.

Saludos amigo @fermionico. Buen análisis. Los patirojos estuvieron en la lucha por el tercer comodín hasta los últimos días de agosto e inicio de septiembre. Pero no aguantaron la arremetida de Texas y Toronto. Para este año seguirán con su reconstrucción y posiblemente estén entre el cuarto y último lugar. Espero que pronto tenga nuevamente su visado actualizado.
No iban a ningún lado esos días por sus inconsistencias...
