Spring Training Marlins de Miami || OPINION
El Loan Depot Park enseñorea las calles de la pequeña Habana cerca del downtown de Miami. El apartamento donde vivía mi hija hasta el año pasado queda a escasas tres cuadras del estadio y les cuento: es un lugar muy bonito. Las reminiscencias del antiguo Orange Bowl no se ven por ningún lado. Una construcción moderna, está a la altura de los grandes parques de pelota de los Estados Unidos. Y el ambiente lo hace mejor el hecho de la cantidad de latinoamericanos que van a sus gradas para ver béisbol. No en balde fue escogido para albergar la recién finalizada Serie del Caribe.
Los Marlins de Miami han ido creciendo poco a poco. De eterno ocupante del sótano de la división este de la Liga Nacional, ha pasado a ser un ocupante de la mitad de la tabla, donde acabaron el año pasado. Ganaron 84 partidos y perdieron 78, lo que les sirvió para tomar el último comodín de la liga en 2023 ¿Por qué clasificó si obtuvo el tercer lugar de la división? Bien, las reglas dicen que trascienden los equipos con mejor balance de ganados y perdidos. Solo que se quedaron en el camino cuando los Filis dieron cuenta de ellos en par de encuentros para definir quien jugaría contra Atlanta.

Loan Depot Park dominates the streets of Little Havana near downtown Miami. The apartment where my daughter lived until last year is just three blocks from the stadium and I tell you: it is a very nice place. The reminiscences of the old Orange Bowl are nowhere to be seen. A modern construction, it is at the level of the great ballparks of the United States. And the atmosphere is enhanced by the number of Latin Americans who go to the stands to watch baseball. No wonder it was chosen to host the recently concluded Caribbean Series.
The Miami Marlins have been slowly growing. From perennial occupant of the basement of the National League East division, they have gone to a mid-table occupant, where they finished last year. They won 84 games and lost 78, which helped them take the league's final wild card in 2023 Why did they qualify if they got third place in the division? Well, the rules say that the teams with the best win-loss record transcend. They just fell by the wayside when the Phillies took care of them in a pair of games to determine who would play Atlanta.

Y uno se preguntaría como un equipo que ocupó el 4to. lugar de 30 rosters ofensivos, bateando colectivamente para AVE .259, no trascendió aún más en Octubre. Bueno, parafraseando una famosa frase: "¡Es el pitcheo, estúpido..!" Los peces lanzaron para EFE colectiva de 4.21 con lo que su cuerpo de pitcheo ocupó el lugar 16 de 30. No sé qué estarán pensando en el Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium en Jupiter, FL, pero de seguro trabajaron en invierno para mejorar algo en la rotación. Hasta ahora, lo único seguro es: el venezolano Jesús Luzardo abrirá el choque inaugural el 28 de Marzo ante los Piratas de Pittsburgh en el Loan Depot.
Tres venezolanos se encuentran dentro del roster y andan acondicionando sus músculos: el mencionado abridor Jesús Luzardo, el segunda base titular Luis Arráez y el suplente del outfield Avisail García. Jesús tuvo su mejor año desde la lomita, solo que no recibió mucha ayuda de su ofensiva cuando le tocó abrir. Ganó 10 y perdió igual cantidad, ponchó a 208 bateadores en 178.2 innings para cerrar con una EFE de 3.58, muy por debajo de la media del equipo y por ello recibió como premio el abrir el día inaugural.

And one would wonder how a team that ranked 4th out of 30 offensive rosters, collectively batting for AVE .259, didn't transcend even more in October. Well, to paraphrase a famous phrase "It's the pitching, stupid..!" The Fish pitched for a collective EFE of 4.21 with their pitching staff ranking 16th out of 30. I don't know what they are thinking at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, FL, but they sure worked over the winter to improve the rotation somewhat. So far, the only sure thing is that Venezuelan Jesus Luzardo will start the opening game on March 28 against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Loan Depot.
Three Venezuelans are on the roster and are conditioning their muscles: the aforementioned starter Jesús Luzardo, starting second baseman Luis Arráez and outfield reliever Avisail García. Jesús had his best year from the mound, only he did not receive much help from his offense when it was his turn to start. He won 10 and lost the same amount, struck out 208 batters in 178.2 innings to close with an EFE of 3.58, well below the team's average and for that he received as a prize to open the opening day.

Luis Arráez no necesita presentación, segunda base titular y vigente campeón bate de la liga Nacional, se cansó de largar batazos por todo el terreno y coqueteó con el hito de los .400 en AVE durante gran parte de la temporada, finalizando con promedio de .354, 10 cuadrangulares y 69 carreras impulsadas en 574 turnos al bate. Con dos temporadas consecutivas siendo campeón bate, ahora mismo pareciera el único pelotero activo capaz de quebrar el récord de 262 hits en una temporada de Ichiro Suzuki. Esto se debe a que comenzará su sexta campaña con tan solo 26 años y tiene una talento portentoso para golpear la pelota.
Avisail García tuvo problemas con las lesiones la campaña pasada y viajó varias veces a la lista de lesionados. Cerró con AVE de .185 en 108 turnos y lejos está del apodo que se ganó al principio de su carrera (Mini Miggy). Tendrá que luchar por un puesto para hacer el equipo. Los Marlins parecen encaminados a repetir su actuación del año pasado, pero con un inconveniente: perdieron a Sandy Alcántara por toda ésta temporada (Cirugía Tommy John), así que tendrán trabajo por delante. Luis Arráez needs no introduction, starting second baseman and reigning National League batting champion, he tired of throwing strikes all over the field and flirted with the .400 AVE milestone for much of the season, finishing with an AVE of .354, 10 homers and 69 RBIs in 574 at-bats. With two consecutive seasons as batting champion, right now he appears to be the only active player capable of breaking Ichiro Suzuki's record of 262 hits in a season. This is because he will be entering his sixth season at the age of 26 and has a tremendous talent for hitting the ball.
Avisail Garcia struggled with injuries last season and went on the injured list several times. He closed with .185 AVE in 108 innings and is far from the nickname he earned early in his career (Mini Miggy). He will have to fight for a spot to make the team. The Marlins seem on track to repeat last year's performance, but with one drawback: they lost Sandy Alcantara for this entire season (Tommy John Surgery), so they'll have their work cut out for them. Este año les veo el camino más complicado. Si los Mets hacen lo esperado y los Phillies mantienen lo que vienen haciendo desde hace dos temporadas. Seguramente estarán ocupando el cuarto lugar. Porque los Bravos deberían cabalgar está división.
Los Mets no van a poder...lamentablemente...pero los Phillies si los veo bien...para mí repiten puesto los Marlins...
