Today, after walking dogs, serving breakfast, cleaning rooms, more dog walking, I set up my stall for the wool festival.
There was a lot of back and forth to the car so lots of steps...
This morning I wrote for 5 mins using a generated prompt from The Most Dangerous Writing App
prompt: *“The house wasn't the same to her any more.”
The rooms were quieter, darker.
It smelt different too.
Gone was her mother's perfume, the somewhat overpowering scent that had repulsed Gena as a teenager, but now, without it, the house smelt odd. Not quite damp, not quite dusty.
Just odd.
She put her bag down just inside the door and flicked the switch.
No light came on.
Mike - the neighbour who'd been looking after the house for her - had assured her the electricity was still connected. Perhaps a bulb had gone.
Or a storm had blown a fuse.
She moved around the house feeling like a ghost. Small swirls of dust danced around her feet. She wondered why she had decided to come back here, after all this time. She hadn't bothered coming back when her mother was taken into care. And she didn't come back when her mother died either. What was it about now that had compelled her to return?
Memories - some happy, most not - came flooding back as she walked from room to room.
