I have a clearer picture of this from the vampire movies I have seen over the years. You know vampires don't die natural death except you use special means to kill them, part of that means is driving a stake through their heart.

Usually for you to put a stake through the heart of a person, you have to be close enough. This shows that only a person really familiar can make such a movie.

Hence, the act of driving a stake through the heart is an act of betrayal. It's as simple as letting someone you know inside and the person ends up betraying you.

This things happen everyday. In the case of a vampire, it happens literally but for normal human being, it is figurative but then you will feel the in your heart like it is there after the betrayal.
