The New Generation And The Aftermath

Today took place the women finals at the Australian Open. Sofia Kenin met Garbiñe Muguruza. People were saying Garbiñe Muguruza will win as she's better than Sofia Kenin but they were all wrong and that didn't happen. Sofia Kenin beat Garbiñe Muguruza to 4-6 6-2 6-2.

She's 21 years old, quite young to win such a title but it seems like there was no one better at the Australian Open. She became the youngest Australian Open women’s singles champion since Maria Sharapova. I keep saying there's a new generation in tennis, at both men and women and looks like Sofia Kenin is part of it.

She was very good today, had very good shots, knew how to adapt to the situation, found her rhythm and didn't let anything and anyone take victory away from her. Well done and I'm hoping to see her soon at the other tournaments just as brilliant as she was today.

Simona Halep on the other hand is not doing so good. She lost to Garbine Muguruza at the Australian Open semifinals unfortunately. Must have been hard to swallow as I believe she wasn't expecting a defeat at that stage of the tournament. After the match she said it was too hot, she would have preferred to play in a covered arena but rules are rules. She also said she got tired.

She has a physical trainer as every athlete and looks like the man got fired after her defeat. Halep is famous for firing her coaches at the speed that others are changing their clothes at. Her physical trainer has been with her for the longest time among staff members, he's a member since 2013. Now he's been fired because Halep got tired during the match.

I don't know who's responsible for the defeat but the truth is she should have won and played the final. Someone didn't do their job or made a mistake and the result is the loss of an important title. I hope they can analyze the situation, find the problem and make it right as the next tournament is just around the corner and Halep is still young to retire.

Tomorrow will be another important day as it's the final of men's Australian Open and two of my favorite players will meet face to face. As I said before, I'm ok with whatever happens. Not picking sides as both are very good and anything can happen. I guess I'm going to lay back and enjoy the game, no stress.

Nice post. I don’t really watch women’s tennis often but I was very excited when my fellow Canadian Bianca Andrescu won the US open last year. So many great young players.

She's also part of the younger generation and a great talent. Too bad she could not be at Australian Open.
