Luck, Hard Work Or Both?

Tennis is one of the posts I'm following although must admit, I'm not fanatic, don't watch every match. I've been following the career of a few new tennis players one of which is the Canadian Bianca Andreescu. She looked very promising from the beginning I thought and was right. Not long ago she has become no. 4 WTA after winning the US Open defeating Serena Williams.

It was a huge win for both her and Canada as Bianca is now the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam singles title. She made history for her country and for herself as well. Winning against a player like Serena Williams at this young age in the US Open is a huge achievement.

Today I saw the news that Bianca Andreescu has signed a sponsorship deal with Rolex. If you're watching sport events you can't miss the huge Rolex banners. Rolex is a trusted name and I believe it's a great honor to be sponsored by Swiss luxury watch manufacturer.

Looks like Rolex wasn't the only one to have eyes on the Canadian. Copper Branch, Canadian vegan restaurant chain signed a deal with her after winning in Indian Wells. This deal was for a year for $50,000. Some people think this deal was a bargain. I'm not an expert but if you ask me, Chopper Branch definitely made a great deal as she became more famous later this year, after winning the Rogers Cup in Toronto and later the US Open. Head, BMW and Nike is also sponsoring Bianca.

This is just the beginning. If she stays healthy, she can become number one and hold the title for a long time. She has potential, no one have thought she's going to win a Grand Slam title so soon. Other sponsors are going to fight for her, I'm sure of that and not everyone is going to be lucky. Now she has the freedom to choose, kind of.

While researching facts for this post I came across of an article that is trying to find out how you measure success. It's a good question as I believe it depends on everyone's point of view, however there are some indicators that allows you to quantify success, one of which is earnings. An athlete can earn money by winning prizes but also through sponsorship contracts.

There's a list of 20 Rolex ambassadors, all big names who made a lot of money due to their Rolex sponsorship. There are big names like Roger Federer, David Beckham, Ana Ivanovic, Mark Webber and there's also Maria Sharapova and Tiger Woods, both have lost their sponsorship, Sharapova due to the Meldonium scandal that led to her ban anf Tiger Woods due to various scandals he's been involved in.
