My Fitness Ball
Yesterday was raining and I was in no mood to get wet in a cold weather. So my step count is very poor but that doesn't mean the day was totally wasted.
I took out my fitness ball, that has been sitting in my drawer for a good few months. I thought why not use it till I'm working on my laptop. The benefits of this ball are known when using it for training, but I wanted to know what are the benefits of sitting on it for hours, while working.
The first video that popped up was a negative opinion, saying it's unhealthy, but I knew better not to listen to them. Older generation is hard to convince of the benefits of something new, plus the reasons they are giving are not convincing.
There's this one, that explains very well what and how.
So while working on my post yesterday I was sitting on the ball and after that I could feel my core muscles, which is a good thing as that means I have some core muscles 😂
Ok, jokes aside. it has a lot of benefits as first of all, you have to sit straight in order to be able to stay on the ball. Secondly, you are constantly moving as you have to keep your balance and that means you're engaging your core muscles. Sitting in a chair is safe as you can't fall down but it results in weakening your muscle strength, which in time will lead to serious problems.
So sitting on a ball does not mean boosting your step count, but I'm ok with that as my core muscles are very important.
This is a process though, you have to get used to sitting on the ball gradually, so yesterday was one hour, today is one and a half, and so on, till I get to being comfortable for a longer period. Try it out. A fitness ball costs 80% less then a decent ergonomic chair.
