The Most Painful Defeat And Madrid Open 2021
Tennis is back and I could not be more happy. This year is an exceptional year in my opinion and I'd like to see as much of it as I can, even though I won't be able to watch all the matches.
The Most Painful Defeat
In the past weeks something happened that worth mentioning. Between May 18 and May 22 this year took place the Belgrade Open, the ATP 250 tournaments for men. This is not a high importance tournament from tennis point of view but it is for Djokovic as it takes place in Serbia, his home country.
Being world No. 1 and playing in a tournament at home, in front of your own people is a huge event in every sportsman's life. Citizens are proud to have a world No. 1 and you, as the subject, have to perform as it's an obligation.
I bet everyone was expecting Djokovic to win, yet that's not what it happened. Not by far. He was eliminated in the semifinal by none other than the new kid in tennis, Aslan Karatsev in three sets. Must have been a shock.
The match was the longest ATP Tour match of 2021 and lasted three hours and 26 minutes. Let's not forget that Karatsev was No. 253 a year ago. Novak Djokovic was defeated by Dan Evans in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters last week. After the match he said he wasn't satisfied with his performance, which is understandable.
I keep repeating that the dominance of the big 3 is weakening and they keep proving me right.
Madrid Open 2021
The Madrid Open is going to keep us busy between till May 9. Things are already looking good as the pattern continues.
The Serbian Laslo Đere, who was 1st seed among qualifiers got defeated by the Argentinian Juan Ignacio Londero.
The Australian Jordan Thompson, 3rd seed among qualifiers with anger issues also got defeated by Carlos Taberner.
Another surprising result comes from Roberto Carballés Baena who has managed to beat Emil Ruusuvuori.
Tomorrow will be interesting as Carlos Taberner will play against Lorenzo Musetti and I expect Musetti to qualify for the next round.
The other match I'm interested in will be between the Hungarian Márton Fucsovics and Alexander Bublik. Fucsovics had the bad luck to be eliminated by the Russian Rublev a number of times. Almost every time when these two meet, Rublev wins. Now let's see if Fucsovics can avoid Rublev and what results will he have.
Monday will be even more interesting as big names are on the board, like Karatsev, Evans, Karen Khachanov and Kei Nishikori among others. Even bigger names are coming after as the cream of tennis is participating.

I see no one is missing from the top players. Federer doesn't count anymore in my eyes. He's always missing. Predictions are premature at this stage, anything can happen and I'm sure we're going to see a lot of surprises on the go. I don't mind though.
