Rant About the Playoff Rankings
The official College Football Playoff rankings came out this week. All I can say is, I now remember why I hate the committee and their bias for the SEC and Ohio State in general.
Comparing the Playoff ranking to the AP top 25, you could see several differences. And boy, are they trying to spin up their usual narratives.
Alabama
Once again, they are trying to set the stage for two SEC teams to be in the Playoff. How would Alabama do that if they don't beat Georgia in the SEC championship? Simple, if Oklahoma doesn't win the Big 12 and Ohio State wins the Big Ten instead. In fact, I'm willing to bet they would let a 2-loss Crimson Tide in because of their "strength of schedule".
I can't stress how much I hate the SEC bias and the constant overrating of Ohio State and Oklahoma.
Oregon
This is an absolute joke! Pac-12 is garbage this year. Their only signature win was over Ohio State. And the Buckeyes aren't even that dominating this year. I'm guessing this is a pity placement since the Pac hasn't had any meaningful teams near the top for years.
Look at the conference standings, Pac-12 is terrible this year. Even BYU has a better record in the Pac-12 than the actual members of that conference. Let that sink in for a moment.
Cincinnati
This reminded me of the 2017 UCF where they got shafted for playing "nobody". I guess a win over Notre Dame is not good enough. The #6 placement is pretty much the playoff committee's "screw you" to the Bearcats. There is no way they would even earn a spot at the table if they run the table and win the AAC championship.
The most we will most likely see is them routing the runner up team in the SEC or Big Ten in a bowl game this year. Even then, the committee would still be "unconvinced". Good thing they are heading to the Big 12 soon.
Oklahoma
I would be very annoyed if I were the Sooners, but I don't see them not getting a spot in the Playoff if they win the Big 12. Although, it is rather insulting to place them at #8 for being an undefeated P5 team. If Oklahoma doesn't get a spot then, I say the Playoff is a sham.
Wake Forest
The bias continues. Somehow, the undefeated ACC team leading the conference is not in the conversation. The committee pretty much decided that there is no way there will be an ACC team in this year's finals. If you think the teams ranked above the Demon Deacons will all add 1 to 2 losses, you should be buying a lottery ticket. Bottom line is, Wake Forest is not part of the narrative even if they are doing well.
BYU
I may be a Cougars fan, but I felt this placement was to make Oregon look good. It's propaganda because BYU is currently 4-0 against the Pac-12. The chance of them beating USC at the end of the season isn't unrealistic. It would have been to the narrative's detriment had they shafted BYU in the rankings.
The good thing is, there is a very good chance for the Cougars to secure a spot in a NY6 bowl should they inch closer to the top. Whether they are that good is another story, but I do think BYU deserves a top 20 spot.
The SEC Paddings
It's starting to look like the 2014 rankings where every SEC team seems to be in the top 25. The result of that year? SEC didn't take home the championship and most of them lost their bowl games at the end of the season. Alabama lost to the 4th seed Ohio State that year.
This is why you shouldn't pretend all the 2-3-loss teams actually deserve their ranks. Some do, definitely not all. They only serve to pad Alabama and Georgia's resumes. I'm willing to bet they would still stay in the top 25 by the end of the regular season with 4 losses. Because, you know, bias. But the walls will come tumbling down comes bowl season.
NC State
If Cincinnati doesn't deserve to be at the top for playing a "cupcake" schedule, I don't know why NC State is here. They literally beat nobody significant. Clemson is no good this year. Somehow, this team made it to the top 25?
The Rest (#21-25)
I can't even...how are they ranked? They are stuffing random Big Ten teams in the rankings for fun now. Gosh, might as well put Penn State back in the rankings. It's gonna backfire on them.
Whatever, the next few weeks will be boring. BYU is playing a few FCS teams before USC. Penn State most likely won't beat either of the Michigan schools. For me, I'm more willing to accept Georgia as this year's champion than Alabama or Ohio State.

@enforcer48, you've been given LUV from @pixresteemer.
Check the LUV in your H-E wallet. (2/5)
I think MSU deserves to be in the rankings given their record and the couple of big wins they have had, but no way they are a #3 team. The consistency isn't there. When they are firing on all cylinders both on offense and defense, sure, but that isn't the case 90% of the time. I don't care about the rest really. It's MSU or nothing!
Well, still plenty of football left. We shall see if the Spartans come out on top.
We say the same thing every year over my way also.
Yeah, like those 6 total rush yards against LSU this past weekend.
