Before going into Week 6
Before we head into another exciting weekend of college football, let's take a look back at Week 5. As usual, I will use stats and graphics from ESPN. There were a fair number of upsets, if you could even call them that. At least, both of my teams won their games.
Outclassed
Most of us expected Georgia to win, but not in this fashion. Not only was it a blowout loss for Arkansas, the Bulldogs shut them out completely! One must wonder how did it feel to suffer such a loss in a match between top 10 teams in the country?
For the cynics out there (like most of us), it might as well be media bias. Heck, we could even call it institutionalized bias. A mediocre SEC team always seems to rank higher than they merit. They need to pad that playoff resume I guess. Regardless, I'm hoping for Georgia instead of Alabama being the top dog this year.
Rejected
I guess we won't be seeing a Pac-12 team in the CFP this year. How many years has this been happening now? 2? 3? One could always blame it on how each team in the conference beat each other up due to their similar strengths. But at the end of the day, only the Big 12 plays a true round robin schedule.
Underrated
All I can say is I am glad the Bearcats are joining Big 12. It will make the loss of Oklahoma and Texas more bearable (pun) in the future.
More SEC "ranked" games
There's a reason why I didn't talk about Alabama's trouncing of Ole Miss. What happened to the Florida that played Bama tough? They lost to...Kentucky? Sorry, but that is not a school that comes to my mind when it comes to football.
Nothing to see here. Just SEC teams beating each other to pad their strength of schedule. Must be nice racking up those "vs. AP top 25" points. It's to make their conference champion look good, of course.
More random highlights
Then again, if everyone could beat anyone, the ranking system becomes somewhat of a joke. I don't have opinions about those upsets. I only put Baylor there as a lot of the fans expect them to beat BYU this season.
This weekend
It's homecoming week. Not like anyone actually cares. After seeing how Boise State performed so far this year, the odds look good for BYU. It would be kind of sad if the Broncos could pull a fast one on the Cougars. At rank 10, I can't help but feel that they are over-ranked. However, the team would have to rank that high if they wish to have a chance for a bid at one of the NY6 bowl.
This could be the game that decides who might come out as the Big Ten champion at the end of the season. I am very much afraid for the Nittany Lions and hope that they pull through. If they can't, the only chance they'll have is to win out the rest of the season and hope to challenge Big Ten West winner. Even if Penn State wins this, they still have the hurdles of Ohio State and the Michigan schools to go through.
Let's see what this weekend brings.

@enforcer48, you've been given LUV from @pixresteemer.
Check the LUV in your H-E wallet. (2/10)
Great recap! The Cats might not traditionally be known for their football program but the last few years under Stoops have been amazing. They've made a name for Kentucky taking us to a bowl the last 5 years. We've been overlooked big time this year.
That being said we looked pretty good against Florida. We didn't look nearly as good against South Carolina. I'm hoping this week's matchup against LSU shows us continuing to improve. It's at home for us and it's going to be rowdy in Lexington being a evening game.
Did not know that.
I hope you guys beat LSU and shake things up in the SEC.

Nice writeup pal! I wasn't able to see all the action this past week so this is exactly the sort of recap I was looking for.
I was disappointed to see ND lose to Cincy like that, but given the final score I think we can say that this is one place where the rankings had it right on the money.
When you go down 17-0 at halftime, it's tough to come out of the locker room feeling terribly optimistic. At least they made a good show of it.
Omg, this weekend was a disaster for BYU and (much less) for Penn State.
Well, having 4 turnovers will cost you the game even against a 2-3 Boise State. But, BYU is still ranked, though. The Penn State vs. Iowa game could have easily flipped, so I didn't feel quite as bad.
On the other hand, Alabama lost, so there's some consolations there. And dang, Kentucky is on fire!
Oh yeah, Utah finally snapped the century-long bad juju against USC on the road. So, interesting weekend all around.
