ᴀɴɢᴇʀ ᴍᴀɴᴀɢᴇᴍᴇɴᴛ: ғᴇᴡ sᴇᴄᴏɴᴅs ᴅᴇʟᴀʏ ᴛᴇᴄʜɴɪǫᴜᴇ.

Humans are built differently which means ability to control our emotions differs, it takes a lot of self discipline to ensure we manage our emotions appropriately. We live in a world where almost everything is programmed to put us on edge, work, school, marriage e.t.c which means from time to time we are bound to face situations that will push us beyond the limit of our tolerance. Anger is one of the emotional outburst that is capable of destroying relationship built for hundreds of year in just few seconds not to mention it's ability to result to violence which can result to damage if lives and properties. We humans are temperament creatures with boundaries, whenever we are in a situation that push us beyond that boundary we are bound to react.

Anger management is the ability of an individual to put there emotions in check to prevent emotional outburst, I have witnessed and seen so many cases of expression of anger and sometimes all I could ask is, is it worth it? I'm quite aware of the fact that it is impossible for us to tolerate everything thrown at us but that doesn't mean we have to react in a way that will cause nuisance in the society. An individual with the ability manage his/her anger can be able to remain a level headed person at all times. Whenever I witness an outburst of anger, I look at the person in question and wonder what will be achieved when he/she calms down and see all that has been destroyed.

It is almost impossible to live in a world such as ours without having a moment of emotional outburst but I believe it should be in moderation, I have seen people get so upset to the extent that they pick up harmful object to hurt each other, What exactly is the point of that? My dad would say an angry man is no different from an insane person which is true because at the moment when you become furious they are some actions you will be prone to take which you wouldn't do on a normal day, I mean would any sane person push their fellow human off a building? This proves how detrimental lack of anger management is to our society.

I have had my share of emotional outburst on many occasions, which means I'm not immune to it but after the whole thing is over I look at myself and watch how I have made a fool of myself. Truth be told it is kind of hard to put our emotions in check but not impossible. One thing I have noticed among most people with anger issues is that they do not think before they act, they act before thinking. You might wonder, what is the difference between the two. If a person manage to take a deep breath and think about the possible consequences of being angry he/she would never go overboard but at the moment of being upset most people forget to think but just act according to the heat of the moment and we all know how that turns out eventually.

I have learnt a lot from dealing with humans most especially in public places, though I can't say I have mastered the act of anger management fully but to an extent I can say I have made a lot of progress and one of the technique that has worked for me over the years is called "Few seconds delay technique" A technique that has given me control over my emotions.

In march I visited an immigration office in Ikoyi for capturing which was based on appointment, I was informed by the agent I paid to assist me in getting my passport that I need to arrive very early in order to ensure I don't get delayed, a day before the day of my capturing I texted the agent just to confirm his availability but he did not reply but I went ahead to travel down to Ikoyi believing that he will eventually reach out to me before it is my turn for capturing and truly he did but the issue was that he was not available so he assigned one of his underlings to me, to put me through the process of the capturing.

I called the guy that was assigned to assist me he kept asking me to wait in the reception despite knowing that I have been there since 6:42am but I kept my cool. Around 10:00am I reached out to his boss and informed him that I will be returning back home since the person assigned to me has refused to show up, after I dropped the call I saw the guy, I guess his boss must have called him. He gave me the necessary credentials I needed to do my capturing and I proceeded to the capturing room.

On getting there I noticed there was an unusual sitting arrangement but I choose to remain quiet. What happened was that the immigration officer by the door has some people lined up at his back, a line different from the one everyone was standing on. Before they could call one person in from my line, the officer would have called in about 5 people from the people that lined up behind him. The funny aspect of it was that those people were sitting while we were standing and most of us got to the capturing room before them. It got to a point that people could no longer tolerate the actions of the officer, it was quite obvious that what he was not being fair. A man from my line came out and went straight for the waiting room without being called but he was stopped by the officer who was standing by the door.

They started arguing and in few secs he slapped the officer standing by the door and everything went south from there. People had to get involved before they could be separated. Few officers came and took both of them out of the premises, the funny aspect of this incident was that I was the one next in line to enter the capturing room while the man that went ahead to fight the officer was behind me. I saw all that was going on but whenever I feel like I'm getting furious I take a deep breath for few seconds and I just shake it off. My plan was to get inside and report what the officer by the door was doing to his superior officer but that was no longer possible because someone already decided to punish the officer by himself.

The man that beat up the officer was not able to do his capturing that day because he was taking out of the premises by police for assaulting an immigration officer, In so doing the victim has become the offender while the offender has become the victim. I felt like everything could have been easily resolved if everyone decide to control their emotions and follow the right route to ensure justice is served. This technique might not seem like much until you try it out, just a take a deep breath for few seconds by the time you regain consciousness any aggression you might be feeling would have cool off. Remember only a level headed human can make an appropriate decision.

To control your anger is such a good thing. Sometimes anger makes you so rude to do something wrong. You know whenever I see people in anger I don't stop there. My heartbeat becomes high to see them. I am very afraid if angry people.

I don't really blame you for being afraid of angry people, anger makes people do crazy things which could harm a lot of people in the process.

I'm the kind of person that when I'm angry, my actions can be very destructive but I have learned to control my anger by simply choosing to walk away a lot of times, not taking any actions until I can better express myself in a very calm way and that has been helping me a lot.

We can not stop things from getting on our nerves sometimes but we can always choose how we can react.

Excessive anger is certainly destructive, bust sadly that's what we see everywhere, anger is what leads a lot of people today and the results have been very disastrous, even lives have been lost. Truly it is important that we all learn to manage our anger, your technique is very good, keep it up!

Thank you for sharing this 🌺

That officer was not fair at all though the man that confronted him too was wrong slapping him.

I watched a video today on IG where a man out of anger was fighting Nepa people just because they came to disconnect his light, I was like, is the fight necessary?... Like you said, anger management is a very important skill, infact, it is a must have skills.
To me, getting angry makes things worse.

The truth as humans we can't help it sometimes we just have to ensure it is in moderation. The thing is the officials of electricity distribution company {NEPA}can be very rude and insensitive some times.

One thing I have noticed among most people with anger issues is that they do not think before they act, they act before thinking.

Unfortunately, this is the case of my bigger sis, sorry to say but it has landed her in many regrets
Anger management is not easy but we can try taking a deep breath before acting. That would help us to some an extent to control our actions

Thanks for sharing.

Exactly, pausing for some time before acting on our anger, grants us the privilege to think.

So much that anger can cause. It is true that an angry man is no different from an insane person.

they do not think before they act, they act before thinking

At that point, their eyes are clear when the deed has been done and there has been damage everywhere. No one is an exception when it comes to anger because we are all humans and we would always be met with situations that infuriate us, wanting us to react immediately, but we must be calm so it doesn't get the best of us.
