WWE Is Fake

145,000 plus fans graced the two nights of Wrestling's biggest event, Wrestlemania 40 hosted by the WWE. Am not a big wrestling fan but I admittedly did grow up feeding off some of its content so seeing 'The Rock' on Television was a bit nostalgic. Turns out I wasn't the only one, as I checked the numbers and they are estimating 660 Million views over the Two day event. One thing I loved about the show I did watch was the audience getting involved. People were screaming out their lungs and having a good time.

In the end am sure most people would have gone home satisfied about the outcome, convinced that they received their money's worth. What mattered was the level of interest and entertainment value provided by the show, nobody cared to know if the outcomes were premeditated or the fight scenes choreographed. We just want to be entertained. My previous article was on the pieces I believed a good story needed to have, this show seemed to possess a large portion of them.

I find the WWE success story very impressive. Good business decisions seem to be at the helm of it. They lost the mystique they had in the 90s largely thanks to cultural and technological changes, yet they've managed to find an audience till this day among the Old and young. Of course they've not been without their own controversies, as founder Vince McMahon finally stood down over sexual assault charges in what seems like a lifetime of him in charge. They've also sold their company to the an investor firm that also owns majority stake in the UFC.

It makes me a bit ashamed of myself when I think about how the Wrestling TV shows are run. They are stories told week by week over what is now generations. They've certainly had a lot of bad days as I for one almost forget such a product exist for most of the year. Yet they've been consistent, and have kept on reinventing themselves. There are certainly lessons for us as individual and our community to take home from products like this. Yes it is fake, but who really cares?
