Goat Whisperer……….My Actifit Report Card: January 12 2025
GOAT whisperer? What?! More on this in a moment. But, first……..
Our day began at church. I know I say this every Sunday; the worship was awesome as was the sermon! It’s true! We really enjoy it! 😇
Once home, we both had some things to do, but decided to head out for a hike mid afternoon. Jan and I went as far as the lumber mill up near the off grid cabin. Then we started exploring for some ‘shrooms while @silvertop continued up to the cabin. I’ve not hiked much over the past few months due to my own hip issues and I need to rebuild. Here’s some of what I found! Enjoy!
Going back to the goat whisperer……..
Shortly after coming back down when we hit pavement again; there’s a small home back in the trees that has 3 goats. Just as we passed by the driveway, we were joined by a goat that took an immediate shine to me. Maybe he could tell I’m a goat person as I used to have a goat I bottle raised who was my baby. Anyway, he pretty much ignored @silvertop and Jan, but would follow me wherever I went. So I went back down their muddy driveway, trying to figure out how to get him back in with the other 2 goats inside a pen with apparently no gate! We tried to block him in with a table, but he got around it and ran to the street to catch up with me! So much for the get away! 🙃
I called our neighbors Kurt and Alma, as they were close and since they have goats, maybe we could catch him and tie him where the owners, who were not home, could see. We all herded him back and I was his human of choice again. We managed to corner him under the deck, but in the long run, that wasn’t going to work anyway! Since Kurt had brought a truck along, the plan was for him to run interference until we could get away. Then he’d jump in the truck and get away.
It worked! We still watched for him though, as we could have been close enough for him to catch up if he ran. Here’s my little goat friend!
Closer to home, I spied these little guys so perfect a specimen, that I thought they were porcelain, lol!
Pretty cool!
Well, that’s the adventure for today we didn’t know we were going to have. Take care everybody and enjoy the week ahead! 🙏🌎🙏

That sounds like a wonderful day, sis! 🌲 Getting back into hiking, especially with such a scenic route, must have felt great despite the hip issues you've been facing, sis. It's awesome that you and Jan found some mushrooms – finding hidden treasures in nature can be so rewarding. I hope @silvertop had an equally enjoyable time continuing up to the cabin. 🏞️ Rebuilding strength takes time 🍄. I know this by experience!
It’s funny how animals have that uncanny ability to sense out people who truly care for them. Your love for goats must have shone through sis, which is probably why he followed you around with such determination. It must have been an adventure trying to wrangle that persistent goat back into his pen! 🐐

Goat whisperer - you really made me laugh with this one! 😅 And I like it!
However, I'm glad you managed to take care of that goat.
Apart from that, you also gave me an idea with all these mushroom photos. The thing is that we came across a couple of different mushrooms on our country property, but we were too scared to pick them as we were not the mushroom whisperers. 😉🤷♀️
But now, watching your photos, an app a friend was telling me about crossed my mind. The app may detect (by taking a photo) almost any plant. So, I'm going to find it, and next time when we are there, see if those mushrooms are eatable or not.

Hi @ana-maria! Google will also do the same thing. I have an app called PlantSnap as well. However, be very careful! What I've learned about mushrooms is that there are also many that are look alike, but are still poisonous! For example; here, people love the Morel Mushroom! I've heard what a delicacy they are! Anyway, there are EarlyMorel Mushrooms that look almost exactly like the real deal. However, somewhat edible, they can still cause severe intestinal distress as well as nausea and vomiting. There is also one called a False Morel Mushroom, which again, is a look alike. This one can actually make you sick enough unto death!
Please, please be careful! I've heard of 'expert' mushroom people who have died because they identified the mushroom incorrectly and ate it. If possible, find someone in your area who might be considered an expert and seek their advice before harvesting any for a snack or dinner.

My idea was to detect it with an app first, and if it turns out to be an eatable one, to check it additionally with some local expert as I'm also terrified of possible incorrect identification and all that might cause, not even to mention the chance of deadly outcome.
