Peaceful……But Is It?…….My Actifit Report Card: December 5 2023

My day began with over two hours of work on the software data input this morning. I am hopeful to have enough done to still go live at the end of the month. It seems that since I can add new products and services as needed, as long as I have the basics of what we sell, the rest could be added as needed or over a period of time. It would be ever changing at least with frames as we are always getting new in. It seems logical but I will have to see what they say.

After doing that, @silvertop realized I needed to get out and suggested a trip to the River Park in Everson. That first picture is just after you enter the park. Looks peaceful-doesn’t it? The next few photos were what we went there looking for.

The Nooksack River was flooding due to the atmospheric river they had predicted. The rain over the past two days has been a steady rain and not the usual mist we often get. It all adds up to flooding for our area this time of year.

The next two pictures show what looks like a very large bush in the river and the following one has a tree trunk with roots. The trunk was a good 1.5 feet in diameter. Both bush and tree were booking at a fast clip!

This next picture with the red arrow is of a part of the park that’s close to the riverbank. Some of my previous photos were taken from the vantage point of that area.

After we had left the park, about two hours later, I checked the USGS website of the river level and too this screenshot.

Previously, when I’d checked that same website, it was a foot lower than what you see here. That little island like area in the photo with the arrow? Well it’s a sure bet it was under water by then! While we were out there on it, I did give pause to think about the level and to make sure we could get back to higher ground!

We went to Bellingham to run a quick errand and came back home a different way. If you check out @silvertop’s post, you can see Lake Lynden, which isn’t a lake at all! It’s really a cornfield that takes some of the Nooksack River’s floodwaters. Heading back to Everson the ‘ back way ‘ we discovered Kamm Creek had overflowed onto the road and half of the road was under water! I had to drive on the wrong side of the road to get past it. I was not expecting that!😳

Everything else was in good shape and we got home safely. I checked out the USGS website again and took another screenshot.

As you can see, the river has begun to recede just a little. As long as the rains don’t pick back up, we should be in good shape. I don’t believe any structures have been compromised this time around, as this flood is nowhere near the catastrophic event of the 2021 flood, thank goodness!

That’s it for today. Tomorrow begins my work week actually at work. Otherwise, it really began on Saturday. 🙃
