This Time for my wednesday walk, I was in the Olympic Area on the last day of the European Championsship

The European Championships are now over and on the last day I went to the Olympic Park and Olympic Stadium in Munich. The 1972 Olympic Games took place there. That was exactly 50 years ago. It's nice that there are still facilities like this that are needed after such a big event. Too often you hear that these facilities are simply neglected after such games or become ruins.	Die European Championships sind nun vorbei und ich war am letzten Tag noch im Olympia Park und Olympiastadion München. 1972 fanden dort die Olympischen Spiele statt. Also vor genau 50 Jahren. Es ist schon schön, das es noch solche Anlagen gibt, die auch nach so einem Großevent mit Veranstaltungen gebraucht werden. Zu oft hört man, dass diese Anlagen, nach solchen Spielen einfach vernachlässigt werden oder zu Ruinen verkommen.
I don't like the IOC and its German President Bach. And he was rightly booed loudly in Augsburg a few weeks ago when the World Canoe Championships were held here. And the World Cup in Qatar will not be any better. What are they supposed to do with these huge stadiums from spring 2023?	Ich kann dem IOC mit seinem Deutschen Präsidenten Bach, nichts abgewinnen. Und zurecht ist er in Augsburg vor ein paar Wochen, als hier die Kanu WM stattfand, kräftig und lautstark ausgebuht worden. Und auch die WM in Katar wird nicht besser werden. Was sollen sie den mit diesen riesigen Stadien ab Frühjahr 2023 machen?
So it's all the nicer that there are major events where you don't have to build everything from scratch. It's already energy-intensive. But if, it's best that way. And I was also able to enjoy it fully.	Umso schöner ist es, dass es Großereignisse gibt, bei denen man nicht alles neu bauen muss. Es ist sowieso schon Energieaufwendig. Aber wenn schon, dass am besten so. Und auch ich konnte es voll genießen.

The whole area is on the edge of Munich's city centre. In the meantime, a recreation area has been created there for the people of Munich. With everything you need. A lake, a large hill and a few geese are at home there.	Das ganze Areal ist am Rande der Münchner Innenstadt. Mittlerweile ist dort ein Naherholungsgebiet für die Münchner entstanden. Mit allem was man so braucht. Ein See, ein großer Hügel und ein paar Gänse sind dort beheimatet.
Many decisions have been moved there for the European Championships. For example, the triathlon, athletics and mountain biking.	Zur EM sind viele Entscheidungen dorthin verlegt worden. Z.B. der Triathlon, Leichtatletik und Mountanbike.

It's impressive to stand on this hill and see the arenas from above. On the left is the Olympic Stadium, on the right the swimming hall and the velodrome. In the middle is the artificial lake. Here in the picture, in the foreground, is the ARD and ZDF platform from which live coverage was given. At the end of the lake is the stage for the medal ceremony.	Schon beeindruckend, wenn man auf diesem Hügel steht, und die Arenen von oben betrachten kann. Links ist das Olympiastadion, rechts die Schwimmhalle und das Velodrom. In der Mitte der künstlich angelegte See. Hier auf dem Bild ist im Vordergrund die ARD und ZDF Platform, von der aus live berichtet wurde. Am Ende des Sees ist die Bühne für die Medaillenvergabe.

Stalls were set up everywhere. To participate, eat and look at. I even saw a cart with children selling "homemade lemonade" from a glass carafe for one euro. Let that happen at the Olympic Games. The IOC is merciless and sues the children.	Überall wurden Buden aufgebaut. Zum mitmachen, Essen und anschauen. Ich hatte sogar einen Bollerwagen mit Kinder gesehen, die aus einer Glaskaraffe "selbstgemachte Limonade" für einen Euro verkauft haben. Lass das mal bei den Olympischen Spielen passieren. Da ist der IOC gnadenlos und verklagt die Kinder.

The stadium with its typical roof is now a protected monument. Good thing! You can't just take this landmark down now and have to preserve it.	Das Stadion mit seinem typischen Dach ist mittlerweile Denkmal geschützt. Gut so! Man kann dieses Wahrzeichen jetzt nicht mehr einfach so abreisen und muss es erhalten.

Because admission was free until then, there were also many who simply made a day trip there.	Dadurch, dass bis dahin der Eintritt frei war, gab es auch viele, die einfach einen Tagesausflug dorthin gemacht haben.

Here is the swimming hall. It is open to the public and you can also swim there on normal days. It is one of the few indoor swimming pools in Bavaria that is also open in summer.	Hier ist die Schwimmhalle. Die ist öffentlich und man kann auch an normalen Tagen dort Schwimmen. Es ist eine der wenigen Schwimmhallen in Bayern, die auch im Sommer geöffnet sind.

The stage where the medals were awarded was also free of charge. I think that was a great idea. So many people just sat there on the day and celebrated the athletes. In this case, our pole vault silver medallist Bo Kanda Lita Baehre was honoured on the left. That's why it was so crowded.	Die Bühne, auf der die Medaillen vergeben worden sind, war auch ohne Eintritt. Ich finde das eine Tolle Idee. Somit haben sich wirklich viele einfach am Tag dahin gesetzt, und die Sportler gefeiert. In diesem Fall ist links unser Stabhochsprung Silbermedaillengewinner Bo Kanda Lita Baehre geehrt worden. Deshalb war es so voll.

Such an interesting post and walk so interesting to see the area and great to hear some events and areas are free to visit
